Completely off topic, but you remember those piebald/snow tropical gars ( I think they were tropical gars...hrmmm) that were being sold about a year to a year and a half ago? Did any one get any? I would LOVE to see some updated pictures of them! They looked crazy! Way too pricey though! OY!

reGARding the fish in the images, it clearly has a broken back, and judging from the fin placement, lacks motor control of the unpaired fins posterior of the break.

it sucks that this happens to gars (and quite frequently...again, unfortunate), but fish like this need to be euthanized. they will only further propagate the injury as they try to swim, feed, and breach.

i'm all for taking on gars that can be saved, but in this case, the humane thing to do would be to put down the fish :( --

i see your point... but he is in a tank by himself.. he eats well.. he dont swim much... tough decision thou...

i can definitely sympathize with it being a tough decision, i've had to put down several gars in the same or similar circumstances. i've also experimented to an extent with seeing if they recover or how they do, even with isolated. in all cases in which the extent of damage is like it is in this case, the fish gets progressively worse and needs to be put down. i wouldn't do it if it weren't necessary, and unfortunately that has always been the case.--

Cool ;)
look foreword to seeing them...I have interest in seeing how this fish is recovering and or altering it's behavior to adjust for a "handicap" and injury..
