I have a 100 gal tank with about 300 guppies in it. A few weeks ago some of the real old mama's started shrinking up- till they were long and thin then died- I thought they were just done with their lives- maybe 3 died this way...well now I have male and female, young and old all with the same problem- getting all thin like a coffee stiring straw then they die. I tried various antibiotics including the one they use in water when shipping them- makes water all yellow (forget name)

Still no progress. I'm seeing about 4 new cases a day. Any one know whats going on
:(
I did just change all the water to see if that would help. nope.

I now have 11 alive and 3 dead in my hospital tank.

Have you tried puttin a little bit of salt in there?

ya try salt. Not sure how sensitive guppies are, but for my P's I do 1tbsp per 10 gallons

guppies do very well with salt. Try turning your tank into a lightly brackish tank. They love brackish water :D

Thanks- salt's been added. I lost 7 since this morning. another 15 seem to have it too.

With a parasite- wouldn't a fish have to bring it in?
I did get 2 new guppies about 3 weeks ago- but they continue to be healthy

I know my fish love eating frozed thawed peas put thru my garlic press'
Thanks

There is a protozoal gut infection, like guardia, which effects fish, it prevents food from being properly absorbed. One symptom is whitish soft feces. It is hard to cure as standard antibiotics don't work. Try the antiparasite medicated foods and treat all the guppies for ten days with only that food, Jungle makes some. Salt in your tank will help by killing the motile stage as with ich. Guppies are very salt tolerant and you can use as much as a tbs per gallon but need to use at least 2 tspn per gallon to be effective for treatment. Good luck.
By the way Girltropics, welcome to MFK.
