I have a little 'tosa, and I want him to become a big ass 'tosa. He doesn't seem to eat that much of anything. I feed pellets, frozen brine and beefhart. He eats, but doesn't chow down like my devil did when he was just a little guy. What do you all feed your Frontosas?

Did you just get him? If so, try some live blackworms and/or feeder fish.
Just becareful with the feeders. There's too much disease in store bought feeders.

Good luck.

I've probably had him for about a month or so........He was just a baby when I got 'em......he's gotten a little bigger and his fins are starting to get nice and long. He was really dark at first.....now he's a nice bright blue. He lives in a little 10 gallon tank with a peacock eel untill he gets big enough to play in the bigger tanks.

What ever you are doing is working. They are slow slow growers. A 10 gal is to small for any size front IMO. If you have a 30 put it in there by it's self, without the eel. You will need a 75 gal later on for it, by it's self. Most people say that they are better in groups of 4 or more. In which you will need a 125 gal tank. Good luck with your fish and try to learn as much about them as possible at frontosa link (http://www.cyphos.com) .

I could move him to a bigger tank, but he would get chewed. I may just fork out for a bigger "grow out" tank.
Right now I just usually keep the guys alone in a ten gallon untill they can hang w/ the bigger fish.
I'm just gonna get myself a 180 gallon as a present for Christmas. No one else will get it for me! HAHAHAHAHA! :grinno:

I feed my frontosa fry flake and small pellets they like when you soak the food so it goes to the bottom. stay away from floating pellets they may cause float and kill your fonts!! How many frontosa and what Variant do you have? I have 11 Kipilli's and Burundi's they are 2 inches.

hi there i work at aquatics store and i found the best way to feed frontosa is by dangling the food infront of the class so you get their attention and then just throw it in, try freeze dried krill the best result

frontosas are not devils so dont go expecting a food processor. they are peaceful, slow growing and medium paced. get some flakes and frozen foods like emerald entre, krill and other low protien foods. once big enough try grass shrimp once every 2 weeks (gives em somethin to chase).

mine grew from 4 to 6 in a 6 month period. keep a good feeding and water changing schedule. t will start to look happy and inch its way up when u pass by or stand in front.

Hi there young fella.

I got my first Frontosa about 30 years ago and been hooked on them ever since. I'm glad you found them and hope you enjoy Fronts as much as I. First, that fish will never grow in such a small tank, Either spend some bucks and buy the biggest tank you can afford, or buy guppies and get rid of the front. Second, I don't know how big your front is, but get it to start eating pellets. even if you must buy the smallest ones they sell. The secret to get fish to grow is live food and plenty of it. Yes, you must be carefull where you get it. I have no answer for that, maybe raise your own. You can start with some guppies in that 10 gal. tank. Start raising brine/brime (poor speller) shrimp if your front is small. Anyway have fun with these fish. A 14" Front will get anyones attention.............

I feed my forntosa night crawlers. Depending on the size of your fronts you can get red wigglers also. The ylove them and that is alot of protien. rosies and gold fish are also good but careful.

i have frontosa and when I bought my first front( a male) he hardly ate. Then i added 3 females and all of a sudden he started danceing changed color and started eating. I checked out cichlid-forum.com and got some info on them. I is better to keep them in a groupm to relieve stress and aggrecion. I feed them night crawlers that they love. ever since I added the 3 others I never had a problem with feedings.
