Could anyone help me find information on the enormous gar that were fished to near extinction in rivers of the US?

i read a article in field & stream that said dumb rednecks catch them and kill them cause they say their a "nuisance fish" :confused:

I also read an article in a magazine a while back all about these gar. They grew to be the size of small fishing boats, and were fished in huge quantities. I've forgotten the name of the magazine, which is why I'm asking the question. But ya, I've seen a television report on southerners catching hundred pound catfish with their bare hands. It was pretty impressive.

allgator gars. there is nothing like seeing a large specimen in person. imo, it rivals seeing a large arapiama
