First to post in the sub-forum. But yeah, I'm thinking I'm gonna go to the lfs soon and pick myself up a xingu 1. What better first pike to get than one that you see the most often. :)

Nice!! And the pike forum takes the lead! Haha! We are gonna dominate! Anywho, I highyl suggest gettin the ones from Rapps instead bro...seriously. They are larger, cheaper, and you only have to pay $16 for shippin. I would totally do it. The ones at the LFS are small...which is bad wit pikes. When they are below 4" they can be very sensative...I know many peeps that have killed/had their pikes die on them cuz they got them small. It can be done though.....lol...I've gotten most of my pikes around 2.5" and had no deaths yet. Bigger equals more hardy though...;). And they aren't large enough to eat your spectabile, oblongus, or other cichlids either....;). His are about the right size for you! ;)

the whole reason i would get xingu 1 from the lfs would be convenience.
If i buy from rapps, I'm gonna get something a wee bit more rare. ;)

Fo shizzal. I would wait a week, after Thankgiving.....Rapps probably won't get in anything next week really, but the week after......there is potential...but you didn't hear it from me...I mean, its not like Rapps emails me and tells me things....;)

I went to the lfs the other day and when I took a close look at the 5" RTC they had, I noticed a tailfin sticking out of his mouth. So I looked even closer and I noticed that it just happened to be one of the 4" xingu 1 they had in stock.......I just thought I would share that.
the lfs here always puts small rtc with smaller pikes and they all get eaten within the firts few days...they must love watching profit get swallowed....

with you being closer shipping is probaly less but 1 lfs got some from him and they were nice but they had the price around 16 while another shop got direct from an importer with larger ones for 11.
but anyway, im happy i got one as he/she is the most active of my fish but eats too damn much.

g'day boys.... you blokes seem to know what you're talking about....i've recently spawned crenicichla lepidota... ive been pumping the micro worms into them and they seem to be going ok, but ive heard that if you dont seperate the bigger youngins from the smaller ones , i'll end up with all males. Is this true, and should i seperate them when they are younger? i kept about 100 in a net for about 2 weeks and fed them micro worms(i dont know what you yanks call em ) and frozen baby brine shrimp, but the other 900 that where free swimming are twice the size.... the parents are still with em and looking after them. so whats the next step?..

Well, first off...no, keepin them together won't get you all males. Well, it might in a different way than you were thinkin. Males will grow faster, and faster growth rate will allow them to EAT their siblings...soooo the males may end up eatin all the females. Generally wit Crenicichla fry you seperate them according to size...as some will grow faster...and they will not hesitate to eat each other if possible. So yeah, seperate them accordin to size and you should be aight. You will want to remove them from the parents around two weeks or so...cuz soon they will start gettin aggressive towards the fry. Its good to keep them wit them though cuz then they will have good parenting skills imprinted onto them from the adults...;). Congrats! Lepodita are PIMPIN Saxatilis pikes...love the females breeding colors!! ;)
