Zeppelin3k
12-02-2007, 10:33 PM
No backstage at the shedd, but i rember going there when i was 13 and i was amazed and that started my obsession with the hobby. VIP pass would be kick ass though.

Is UA by or part of the mall of america?

If it ends up being a weekend I'm free I'll be there.
I'd love to see behind the scenes and check out what it takes to keep a place like that up and running.
I'm pretty booked up until after christmas though.. :(

Zoodiver

The Aquarium's website is www.sharky.tv for those who want to check it out.
The AMAZON THREAD (http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51543) shows step by step converting our Mississippi River display into a 145,000 gallon Amazon display last Spring.

When comparing us to Shedd.... Shedd is a great place with a very diverse collection of all animals. They have more size and a much larger staff than we do.
We are 99% fish with a few herps at this point. The main focus of our place is sharks. We are the worlds largest elsmobranch collection.... so if you want to see sharks/rays of all shapes and sizes, check us out. Our native tank is reported to be the largest freshwater fish display in the world. Our Amazon is one of the largest as well (second that we know of if you want to be technical). The main shark display is half a million gallons by itself. We feature over 1.2 million gallons of water total with some of the rare and odd ball animals mixed with the 'normal' stuff you'd love to see.

If anyone locally wants to see it and can't make the big group event, let me know and we can set something up.

Hey guys, I've got some news...

The short and sweet of it is due to random circumstances, I'm no longer with the aquarium due to personal differences. Please feel free to hold the meet. Sadly, I won't be able to provide anything for it. Admission costs are on the website www.sharky.tv. If you call ahead and set something up as a hobbiest group with Cassi (Direction of Sales), I'm sure they'll help you out a little.

Sorry to let you all down.

ewurm
01-08-2008, 3:10 PM
Underwater Adventures I can get us a 15 % Discount for sure. If we can get this thing to 20 bodies, we get in for $10 a piece. The Imax theater is $9 per adult, but I have a call into group sales to see if we can do better. I recommend that one. Also, I think I can get us a 20% discount at the LFS I work at. After thinking about it, we should do that last in case anyone wants to buy fish. I put in a request for stock, we'll see what happens. I am not guaranteeing anything.

thumsa
01-08-2008, 6:45 PM
For that price, you can count 4 adults from me for sure. That's including Mystus Redtail. We wouldn't be going to the Imax, but we do want to hit up the fish store. Soooo, we would be wandering the MOA while that is going on then we could meet at the fish store afterward.

If you are seriously wanting to feed the sharks there is a earlier behind the scenes tour at 11:30 where you can sign up to do that. Actually, I went back to the hotel with the Chicago crew and Zep and had a couple ML's with them and BS'ed. Hey, it isn't Newcastle, but that's what the host was serving, and I enjoyed having a couple pints and some conversation about backwoods drinking. Thanks for the Beers and the talk, Chicago people. Too bad you had to get back tonight Mystus, we had some fun.

Next time I promise, I've sampled quite a few different brews and I'll bring up some of the local brews asap. I may have mentioned that one of my favorites is a beer from New Ulm, local to you guys, Grainbelt Premium, delicious. I would have loved to hang out for some barley pop. The Chicago folks were great too, as were all of the folks I met today. As for the saturn... I didn't see it there, maybe I missed it, but I was definitely looking for it. That Fox Body was sweet, I'm a big fan and fellow owner.

Hey Melissa thanx for everything the tour was amazing. I think my son would have enjoyed it more had he been less tired, but he was still loving it.

Wish Mystus and I could have stayed longer, but the kid had to get home, and I think the wife may have been getting just a little bored. I just can't understand; she doesn't share the passion for fish.

Your kid was very well behaved. He endured eight hours of fish nonsense, and so did your wife. Much better than any kid at the local Cub Foods. Those kids I want to empty a bread bag and stuff them in, or give them some razor blades to play with. Quality parenting goes a long way. Glad to meet you too, hope we can do it again. Maybe a Wisconsin meet, God forbid. I'll bring some MN brews.

Capital idea! We can do a visit to the Mississippi River museum and aquarium. http://www.mississippirivermuseum.com/features.htm
Not as huge as UA, but still a very nice setup, dedicated to Native fish and wildlife. Great gars, giant catfish, a frog display, turtles, alligator, live birds, tons of river history, and info. I may be able to swing something with the LFS, the Fish Shack. Get them to order some nice monster's and throw a raffle. Being south here, we could hopefully get a few more IL folks to make the journey, and of course all you guys that made it today. I could even arrange some refreshments for afterwards too if that's something we're interested in.

I would be down, and maybe some Indy people too. Also, we have the Stingray convention in August, I know I'll see most of you there.

Thanks again Melissa. I enjoyed meeting everyone even more than I enjoyed the fish stuff. I hope we can do it again, just let me know when you want to do it. We'll work out the kinks next time, and everything will go more smoothly. Had a blast with all of you. I think a turnout of 18 is good, and we lost some people just before the meet. Hopefully they can make it the next time around.

No problem, glade it worked out! Maybe we can work something out for this summer when its not like -20 degrees out.

Thanks for the tour! Great to meet you, I hope we can make it up there again soon.

Your welcome, it was nice to meet you too! Let me know next time any of you 'out of towners' are going to be in the area. Maybe we can plan something again.

We could do shedd, I'm not a fan of chicago, but maybe you can change my mind. The stringray thing sounds pretty cool.
