Ive never seen a black aro larger than 24" .. whats the biggest black aro you have personally seen ?

around 25 inches.
Where'd you see that?
I have seen a lot of big black arowanas but I never measured them.

when they get really large/old like that, do they retain the black still, or do they start to lose color?

The largest Black Arowana I have ever seen with my own two eyes would have to be around the 18" mark.
The big ones that I've seen were grey and didn't really have the beautiful tail that they have when smaller.

My old 20"+ Black arow :)
Probably has gotten bigger now... sold 'em.
The biggest I've seen are probably around 18", of course I've never fished them out and measured them but that'd be my estimate.

I had one a few years ago, kept it in a 5'x2'x2' tank and by the time I sold it, it was almost as long as the tank was wide, probably 22-23".

I had it for about two years, got it at about 6-7". Was fed mainly pellets [hikari, JBL etc] bloodworms and the occasional other meaty treat but never feeders (besides about 20 neons I dropped in there when I got rid of a small planted tank). It never showed any signs of getting drop eye like every large silver aro I've seen [coincidently they all seem to get plenty of feeders too], I've never seen another big black arowana so maybe it's just a problem with silvers.

How long have you had it and how big is the tank?? I only had mine for around 2 years, so given a larger tank, a bit more meat in his diet (I fed pellets 98% of the time, apart from that it occasionally got bloodworms, no beefheart, shrimp etc), and a few years longer I am sure mine would have been well over 2'.

I have kept a few that were 22"-24". All sold them to people with bigger tanks than mine.
