Here goes the newest member to my tank family.
Hes about 8.25" and has a lot of anger in him. He keeps attacking himself at a 90 degree angle as he sees his reflection on my bare bottom tank.

Here are some pics of my Armatus.
I had to remove all the c/l's and my big redtail shark. The c/l's were always pestering the Armatus and I guess he got fed up and he shanked a c/l really good. It all healed up perfectly. I still can't get over the growth rate on this fish. If you can ever manage to own one properly do it you won't regret it 1 second. I've already noticed that it will cost to feed when it grows but is well worth it as they are true monsters.

The Panaque is alive.:D In Germany we call it Panaque Royal Golden Thunder.

The other silver fish is Cynopotamus atratoensis. It works well for a few month but recently the Cyno lost one eye due to the attacks of the armatus.

My armatus usually is standing near the Cynopotamus or is swimming around in the middle of the tank.

He just left the pond to teach the Armatus, then went back in. He's too comfy in the pond. Started freeking out when I had him in the tank. Yeah I saw Trev's ZOO pic...... I just don't understand why these things are able to reach Armatus lengths in the wild but yet no one has a big one in the home aquarium...... I really need to find some more.

My Armatus are in the same pond as the Rhaph right now but the pond is divided. I'm trying to get my recently aquired 300 gallon up and going for the Armatus.......

LOL..... The 300 gallon is the little one. I can't use the big one. The landlord would evict me.

they generally hate anything silver.
but most i have seen work well with anything that is slightly smaller in size and not silver.
but there are some that kill anything in the tank.
best tankmates would be the slower moving ones IMO and bottom dwellers.

What? I'm an Armatus murderer.

But they DO all have smelt in thier bellies when they die.......LMAO. Always broke by 6 inches or less.

I am gonna go ahead and throw this out there now that I have another Armatus in the freezer.........

For those of you that keep multiple Armatus together....... Does ANYONE have a batch with NO eye issues?

I firmly believe in order to keep multiple Armatus together you MUST have a HUGE tank if you want to keep them in mint condition. My batch started getting fiesty at around 6-7 inches when housed in a 180. Now that they are in the pond they appear (from what I can see) to be a lot less "high strung" or edgy.

But I also have a huge gap in sizes. The biggest one is now about 2 inches over the other 2. I believe it eliminated its competition with a quick shiv to the eye of the competition. I guess I am partially responsible for not giving them adequate room. You guys have been warned. This could happen to you if yopu attempt to keep them in a tank that they feel is too small. How YOU feel is irelavent, you may think its plenty big..... NO matter, your fish will decide if it's too small. And WHEN they do this is more than likely going to be the result. The tank MUST be huge...... I can't stress this enough.

Armatus are kinda like women......

While having a whole bunch might be great fun while it lasts, and you may feel great surrounding yourself with multiple beautiful jems, enjoying each and every one of them, in the end more than likely you will be left feeling terrible after a majority of them leave you and you are left with either ONE or NONE. That is unless you house them in an enormous mansion where they NEVER see eachother.

It is best to just keep one and take great care of it.

:)

Now IF I could only find a woman I love as much as an Armatus.

But unfortunately both Armatus and women leave me within the first few years.

I just got him. Does anyone know if he is a red tail?? Also, How big will he get?

Yes Red Tail (Tat). I forget and dont quote me but I think I remember someone saying they get 18" (only prob is it will take about 100yrs to do so. Very slow growers but cool fish to watch eat:naughty:)

Add some Salt looks like he has foggy eyes

how does your eat?

he hasnt been eating every day, and dosnt have any tankmates to compete w for food with. he dosnt get very aggressive w his food either... he usually just grabs his shrimp very calmly.

im thinkin of throwing some dithers in just for fun, but then again i dont want to introduce new fish w diseses and getting my leos sick...

ditto.

Red tails dont seem as fragile as the scombs, but I like the scombs because of there smaller size.
Who knows, maybe I'll just get a scomb and see if I can keep it alive.

I had no problems growing out my scombs in a 55. They were maybe 2in when I got them and 2-3 months later, they are big enough to put in my big tank with 4 rays and an 11in NGT among 4 other Dats from 5-8in! You just have to power feed them when they're small and do weekly changes and make sure the water is pristine. Its pretty simple really (100 guppies a week and let them pick them off as the so choose to). Don't worry about weaning them off of live foods until they are larger.

My son was DOA but told buyer it was at their risk.

I have no clue why I did such a STUPID thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im still kicking myself in the Arse for it. That is def one fish I will have again:naughty:... I dig everything about Armatus... the way they Eat, swim, look... everything!!! The onlything that is a negative is you cant have any prize fish with them:cry:...

It hurt so bad, I almost gave up on fishkeeping... but then shook it off:naughty:
