Pima and exodons

i really want to get a pima, but the pima at my LFS are only 4"ers and there is no way i can put him in my big tank. my option as of right now is to put one in my 40g planted breeder as a grow out until he reaches at least 7-8". only thing is i have exodons and they are scale eaters, anyone have experience or any advices if this would be workable?

i know this is a horrible question, but im trying to convince myself that it is ok. also i dont plan on keeping the pima that long, just until he is about 2" then it will be up for sale.

edit: i dont care if the pimas eat the exodons

I don't think you should buy it at all. What if you have trouble selling it or something, you'll have serious problems with the fish.
If your going to buy it and are positive you can sell it, you can go for it, but I wouldn't risk a 250 $ fish getting eaten.

i work for a LFS, so im pretty sure i wouldnt have a problem selling it. plus if anything i was thinking about just growing the pima out until it hits the 2'-2.5' and giving it away to a good home if i couldnt sell it. i just want to see the growth from baby to mid juvi size. i think im pretty responsible when it comes to caring for fish and doing the right thing.

im more worried about the exodons punking the pima.

four months seem kinda quick for a pima to grow 2'-2.5' if that was the case, then yeah i would probably do so. but i think im just going save one at the store and just grow him out from there.

I once had a friend who donated one to a large public aquarium, it was a few feet long at the time. In order to do the donation not only did he have to set it up over a year in advance he also had to provide transport for the fish using a watertank type trailer.

never knew it took that long to donate something and the hassle it takes. thanks for the info guppy.

Most aquariums unless they already have a roomy pima exibit and are dying for one won't take one. So donations don't always work.

You'd be better off setting up a seperate tank to get it to 7-8" though btw. IMO if you're only growing it to 2-2.5 feet I wouldn't get one. Then your only option is really sell it. Which isn't a good one.

dont do it...............as stated there are very few good homes and most of them are full.........

after alot of work i just was able to relocate two three foot pimas to the zoo in puerto rico

they grow two to four inches a month...........be ready

favorite food fish in the amazon.........:irked: thats part of the reason for their endandered status....

hahaha. yeah i dont think ill get one anymore, seeing that the hassle of getting rid of it after it outgrows my tank is too much of a hassle and possibly not being achieved
