I was just thinking I bought this fish labeled as a MIDAS cichlid not as a red devil like most or Amphilophus in a LFS

BUT I think his face is just a little to pointy to be PURE midas thats the only feature about him that says Devil to me is his face the rest of him has MIDAS written all over it

I was just wondering what some of y'all thought its been bugging me lately because he is HANDS DOWN absolutly the BEST looking devil I've EVER owned and I've got him a female striped midas on the way so he will be being bred to a pure fish i just want to know if y'all think he's PURE or not

That means he is ready for his lady!!!I have had Midas in the past and from those pics i would lean toward a Midas,i could be wrong but i dont think RD's get that big of a hump.Oh,and keep a close eye on your fish when you introduce the femal, have a divider ready!!!

i would say pure midas and a cracker at that! just make sure your divider is in place before you introduce the female as a male and female don't automatically make a pair, good luck

There's really no way to tell other than getting DNA from your fish and comparing it to DNA from wild citranellum and labiatus.

very nice looking guy you got there.

i also gonna say a MidasXRD there. ppl have told me that "true" midas don't have red eyes. no clue on the actual percentage of this being fact. just what i have heard.

gl with the pair, when she arrives. you will need a large tank or a divider. introduce her to him for no less then a week. let her tube drop then try to pair them. if she is mature enough, her tube should drop fairly quickly after seeing him.

I would lean towards a little bit of RD in there too but the pics make it hard to tell. Majority though Midas traits. Def. a great looking fish either way.
