You can see how the news slightly stretches things and makes stuff appear worse than it is. Crap story though, but better than them letting it loose, almost seems a responsible thing to do. Just 'cause it wasn't a cat or dog it made the news :nilly:

I think L_C needs to read this article. Of course I don't know if that will do any good.

OOOOOOOH SNAP.

I hate it when people don't do reaserch on an animal or think thy can change it behavior. KNOWONE HAS SPECIAL POWERS TO DO THESE THINGS. I wish people would realize that.

I agree with Davo on this one. And it otherwise looks like a healthy monitor..

Do you take everything literally?

The article is an example of why Nile Monitors are not good "pets" for the average family and why there is so many of them are given up like yours was. Sure, you may have an obsession with reptiles, but everyone else in the house have to deal with that obsession. In fact, most large animals that are not abandoned are kept in well-established houses or facility with lot of money. Varanids and large Indo-Australian boids may be my passion, but I don't plan on owning any of them until I get a big place or an independent facility to run my operations as well as the mean to feed and heat them with an expected high bills. You know what? At least I realize my limitations. It may take me 10 or 20 years before I can surpass my limitations, but it will be well worth waiting for.

I may be new, but I at least read the old posts.

You back off right now, you do not flame a fellow member. Nowhere did I say you abandoned an animal, just that you gave them up. Giving them up is different than abandoning them, and I can't say abandoning anyway without invoking a flame from you. Oh, and before you call someone an attention-whore (you didn't say it, I did) at least learn the definition first.

I am done with this topic. God you take everything literally and twist them into what you think is "reading between the lines." On the Internet, don't even bother reading between the lines; it get messy and fast.

Edit: Besides, most of the previous is targeted toward other keepers that think they are so "hardcore" for owning a giant snake, a large lizard or venomous pets without realizing the consequences of their actions. There are people that are in it for the attention and the "coolness" and there are people that are in it for the passion; like I said I have a passion for large Indo-Australian pythons, varanids and to add to the list: venomous African colubrids. However, the difference is that I am not going to jump in feet first or selfishly try to fulfill my desires immediately. Again, don't try to read between the line, take it at face value.

I would agree to an extent, but saying that, I consider myself reasonable experienced with some reptiles, yet I won't own a nile no matter how beautiful they are.

So what am I, experienced, or deluded? LOL.

Experienced. I really want to get a savannah when I have the resources. Niles are a bit too nasty for most people, but I love monitors.

I was refering to the dwarf crocs about the deluded thing.

Thank you Kioka, you pretty much said what I was thinking. L_C the problem with you is you don't listen to good advice and you're all about the "WOW" factor. You seem to be attracted to "TOTALLY BADASS", "SUPER COOL", like "WHOA MAN, THAT THING IS OFF THE HOOK" creatures. :irked: If you did do you research, you would have never purchased half the pets you own/owned to begin with. If you can't take care of the animal for life, don't buy it! Wait till you have the space, funds and ability to house the animal before you go off purchasing another poor animal that will just be returned in a month.

TBH, If I could house any monitor, it would be a nile, tame or not, I just find them much more better looking and interesting. But, hey, I don't have a house to give them.

Dwarf crocs? Again if I had the space and experience, but I don't.
If people are experienced and have the resources, theres no reason they shouldnt keep one (IMHO) compared to the experienced in providing for bearded dragons, if a little dramatic.

It's a good-looking Nile, seems healthy. If more people were willing to admit they were in over their heads with herps our hobby would have a better reputation.
