I did a little searching and couldnt find what I was looking for.
Basically I am wondering what a good bottom feeder would be for a 125?
Its going to house a few larger cent. and S/A cichlids such as oscar, gt, jd, firemouth....
Any suggestions would be great. I dont want something that gets HUGE, just something that will fit in a 125 for life and be happy.
Thanks in advance!
Steve

Something that likely wont beat up on the cichlids or vise/versa... and doesnt get to large for the 125.... Prob a car or a loach, if they dont get too large. Ive hard large plecos before and in my experience the large ones provide more waste than they do help...
Thanks for the responses so far..

Get a senegal. It fits your requirement!
Most loaches cannot withstand beatings. Bichirs would be the best option.

Dont they get like 20" or so? I dont want something that large as it would take up too much tank space, and I dont want something where I would have to upgrade...

nope they only get around 12'' max so you should get a larger bichir if you wan't it to hang with cichlids you could try a delhezi bichir they get around 12'' to but are muh thicker or mabye a weeksii bichir they can get 20'' but would be happy in a 125
try
four line catfish
any upper jaw species of polypterus
ornate catfish
large syno cats
sun catfish
lima shovel nose (they could out grow your tank )
some kind of armored catfish

I'll second the Ornate pim, I have one and he does fine with my Uarus, Red tiger mota., flowerhorn, black aro, etc.... I also have a Goldeila eques which gets about the same size. Here's a pic of the two...

I really like the look and profile of those ornate cats. Are they expensive?? Are they hard to come by?
Thanks again for all the great help!

:D Actually, the fish that looks like a C. ornatus is a Goldiela eques. I made the same mistake when I first brought it home too.

The Ornate Pim shouldn't be too hard to find if you're patient, check Tropical Fish Distributors in the Vendors Forum. The eques was a chance find on my part.

I was just gonna ask what that was!
If the 125 is a 24" wide tank you could go with a couple Leptobotia elongata

Those things are awesome! I've been looking for some for a while and one of my suppliers got some in but they are WAY to expensive.

Sorry for the bump,
I have just stocked my 125 with the following: All below the 3" mark.
1-Red oscar
1-Red shoulder sevrum
1-GT
1-JD
1-Jag
1.) I want to get a bottom feeder, and was at petsmart and saw their "Dinosaur eel", that is just a Polypterus senegalus correct?
2.) Will this be OK with these fish, especially this small?
3.) Also it wont outgrow the 125 will it?
4.) Should I just get one, or a few?
Thanks!

yep, that should be the senegal. how the get these names is beyond me. just do a quick search for a senegal bichir to confirm. and they only get about 12" so you should be good.
as for more than one, I'm not sure about that but i would assume they do fine in groups. i have just one - for now!

Love my cory cats. Also bamboo shrimp and ghost shrimp do wonders. I would suggest looking into upsidedown cats -Synodontis (http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=334)nigriventris (http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=334), but you have to be careful where you get them because some pet stores sell other syno.s under the same name and they can get massive. Best of luck!
