This is the email he sent me because I asked "how does he know it was a goliath...here is the response via email. it's cut and paste to hide his true email address.
I know that they are goliath because the breeder that they came from
has a
colony of twelve in his 8,500 gallon breeder tank and the smallest
female is
4.5 ft. over in Germany which I have personally seen, and since you
know
that there are two species i assume you know that the vitatus reach a
max
size of 3 foot. I have six babies left out of 25 let me know if you
want
any.

hmmm...maybe in germany...but honestly, ask him for an actual picture. the picture is an old picture from a book, the Baench Atlas.
I asked him and this is his response:
I have talked with several people all of which have confirmed that
there are
only the two species if you have more info on the subject i would be
delighted to see it. As far as a better picture goes thats the best I
can
get, if you've ever delt with tigerfish you undoubtly know how fast
they are
and that taking a clear picture is next to impossible without an
expensive
camera, sorry.
As for wanting to see both sides I can only assume you want to check
for fin
damage and condition of the eyes, the six that I have for sale are in
pristine condition, there are three others that are "faulty" naturally
I
would never ship these. I am sorry that I could not be of more help to
you.
but let me know if you are still interested.
Noticed that he will not ship, but I thought he would ship all over america.

Is he saying someone bred them in a 8,500g tank??? What a load crap, he said he can't take pics b/c they are too fast, if he is that useless why dose he not get a friend to one for him? There is noway I would buy without a pic saying they are too fast is a cop out, he knows that there is a good possiblity that they are not goliaths. I would insist on a pic before buying, with the daily newspaper as proof of date.

Tell him the picture he took is found on the Baench Atlas Photo Index 1-5 page 51. And its misidentified, then show him a picture of the goliath I've posted or a vittatus from this site :) Tell him, don't worry about the fins, etc...even a blurry picture will do, does he have one?

I am waiting for the pictures. I already sent him one of your pictures showing the goliath, and he said they look exactly the same, but still waiting for pictures....

Well...I've seen an article of them breeding vittatus in Japan, that was about 10 years ago, maybe they did breed some tigers in Germany, afterall they are pretty cutting edge when it comes to fish keeping. But seriously, goliath from the breeder...nah, its like me having a pair of breeding pair of the queensland grouper in my tank :screwy:
