Thanks Bderick.....
FYI - Before people start flaming Arowanas for winning POTM (not aimed at anybody specific), why not step up to the plate and do something about it? If you look at the winners album the majority of the winners are NOT arowanas.:nilly:

STOP complaining and START taking some pictures! :D

Look at the trend of the winning pictures. The only reason he won is because it is a Arowana pic:ROFL:
Just kidding Bderick- That is an awsome pic. Congrats.

So photoshopping a couple of discus into a pic will win the POTM?

Yeah... the discus alone would have made that one tough to beat... throw in an arrowana and its a garaunteed win. Haha... no... seriously though... congrats... GREAT shot!

Welcome to MFK. I am honored to be the subject of your first post on this wonderful sight.
BTW I'm thinking now it would've looked better if I put the discus were facing the camera:naughty:

No need to accuse him of anything. The MFK staff reviews all the entries. If you disagree with us then simply dont vote for the photo.

Oh, so you mean more photoshopped pics? You decided on the other doctored pic to win the contest....Seriously, bro, you can't possibly expect people to take those pics seriously? I mean come on. The lighting from one direction on some of the fish but at a different angle for other fish. Sad. So sad....

I didn't vote on anything. I just found the sight a couple of days ago after 20+ years in the hobby. I checked out the POTM thread and found the bogus shots that this guy submitted and you guys fell for.
Sorry to be the harbinger of bad news but the guy submitted doctored pics. Not unheard of on the net. I'm just sorry that I had to bring it up. The angle of the lighting on the various fish, the outline of the overly bright discus against the not so bright aro? For a POTM winner this is equivalent to Barry Bonds and the "supplements" he was taking.
Not sure what the staff were smoking when they reviewed this or if they reviewed it at all, but this pic is doctored and the staff dropped the ball.
BTW, in my not so extensive experience with Discuss I never knew them to swim toward a gigantic predatory fish with wide eyed curiosity. Any discus folks out there that wonder why these oh so shy cichlids are swimming towards a gigantic Aro that is angling towards them? To me the answer is obvious. The Discus aren't in the same tank when the pic is taken. No way they want to get up close and personal with a fish that big. instinct for those fish is to hide which is why it takes photoshop to concoct a pic with a gigantic aro and discus all up in his grill.
But since this site seems to have a hard on for whatever pic is submitted with an aro in it the staff seems to look the other way when the pic is obviously doctored.
I hope my last post was as good as my first....Adieu everyone....Any site that employs a staff as near sighted as these folks needs some serious help. I expect a nice banning out of this...Ah well...It was worth it to point out such an apparent fraud.....
Everyone take a good look again. the discus behind the leaf is authentic. The two discus in front are authentic. The Aro in the same tank is not and not even close.
But hey, most everyone fell for it and instead of admitting mistakes as most Americans are hard pressed to do I expect the vast majority of you to defend that pic (and the other one which was also doctored) rather than admit to getting taken. Good luck with that.

Hey Fanatic...you got me/us. The hardest thing to do though was get the reflection of the discus on the aros gill and the plants below on its midsection. My best work though is the pic below. I was actually able to create a shadow of the aros fins onto the side of the discus:naughty:

hmm...let's see, I find it hard to believe that fish who have lived together after a while, would still be afraid of each other....
Maybe his discuss were paranoid?
Anyways, great pic BDerick, I'm loving that arrow and the blue discus.

Lets split this picture of the month up in two categories: "Arowana of the month," and "all other fish" :D Give a fair chance to everyone who doesn't own an arowana, not for me but everyone else who competes in this here contest.

Man your Impact black font is so very hard to read:( Not sure why so many people have issues with aros winning? The cool thing about POTM is ya get to see alot of top quality fish pics, and some are just spectacular. I do wonder why there are so many who don't enter this great contest, there's alot of POTM type pics in the photo lounge from people who don't enter. How hard is it to email a pic anyhow:confused::screwy:
Oh well just kinda ranting here, but I will promise not to enter any arowana pics in POTM for the next 3 months:) sound good?:grinno:

LOL, Bderick
What a bunch of crybabies!! If you don't like aros, don't vote for 'em!! vote for whatever fish floats your boat. There aren't that many aro winners, people are too busy voting for quality photos.
If you send in a pixelated pic of an arowana, it's not guarenteed a chance to win. It has to be top knotch, and a good quality photo, like the one Bderick submitted.
Don't be a buzz-kill, simply because your photography skills make a kindergartener's stick figures look like DaVinci in comparison.

Great picture, don't know whether or not it is the real deal, looks like it to me, but as for Discus and Aro's in the same tank. I do have discus and I have seen other tanks set up this way not my cup of tea but they do look great together. Congratulations.
