Wow, I've never seen one before. That's a great looking lizard. What is his/her chance of making it to adulthood?

albinosunlimited
01-16-2008, 11:41 PM
it is about 6 months old and is close to 3 1/2 feet

You know what I'm waiting on.... having a local bring me a Albino Rio Grande Slider (I think those would be SUPER BRIGHT YELLOW)..., a good friend of mine found some albino BLACK SPOTTED NEWTs awhile back. Unfortunately, they died of a bacterial/fungus infection.

What is his/her chance of making it to adulthood?

I repeat. Does it handicap them at all or will they live a long, normal life in captivity as an albino?

albinosunlimited
01-17-2008, 10:31 AM
it will live a long normal life in captivity the only thing that makes it hard for albinos to live in the wild is that they are easy pray for other animals

Ok, just making sure. I was wondering if being albino for that species gave it any other genetic issues like a weaken immune system or whatever.

i know the other albinos in the country are around 10 years old and i dont believe they have had any health issues

Nice monitor! I saw a pic of an albino Varanus dumerilii... supposedly the only one, although the article is old and now there may be more.

The only problems linked with albinism in reptiles I think is eye-sight and skin sensitivity to UV light. However those can be accommodated.

Nice nile, there are other species which have leucisim sp? albinism as well, as Davo mentioned the Dumerilli, Salvator, Kingorum "Leucisim", Doreanus, and Bosch's I think all have had an individual with either or except for the kingorum which is true Leucisim.

davo

I know of someone here that has leucistic kingorum, but never seen one.

Heres some pics of one of Ben Siegels, if I remember correctly he has a pair at his store on display, they might have been sold though as I found these pictures on kingsnake a year or two ago.
