We have a pair of those beasts in our 150 gallon named Jake and Elwood. Make sure you provide a hiding spot for them (hollow log or large flintstone house) for when they moult. We paid $10.00 for them about a year and a half ago. Very intresting creatures and a lot of fun to watch.

I love mine. Have had it over a year - 7-8 inches long. Paid $10 from a website. Bought a bunch of other stuff at the same time to get free shipping!

Never actually bothered to sex it, but it's a "he" in my opinion. Very peaceful and too slow to mess with any of my current fish. He trimmed a pleco tail once but that pleco learned quickly. Every so often it will engage in a tank alpha dog staredown with my Texas (who I'm SURE would love to taste him) but "Pigger" my Texas gets the worst end.

My cherax is very active, all things considered. Has molted several times. Fun to watch - it will begin to eat it's own shell right after molting. Doesn't bother my plants but loves to hide/chill where activity is limited. Has yet to venture outside of the tank unlike the tendencies of Northern Hemisphere craws.

I'm moving soon or would already have more!!!

Had a male and a female....and bunches of little ones...lost the whole batch in a unplaned forced tank move and i even had a LARGE pet store about 2 hours away from me who was going to buy the whole lot of little ones (and my mom lives in that town so it would of been a nice trip but the whole batch including parents are now gone back to the great fish place in the sky

That is a red claw crayfish (cherax quadricarinatus). They are about the perfect aquarium cryafish imo as they are the only cray (that I know of) who will thrive in a tropical setup!

They are usually 10-15 for small ones.

doesn't the blueness come from it's diet? I bought a couple feeder crawfish for my tank and one of them's turned blue since I've had him and is starting to get big. Poor guys only got one claw, but he'll wave that thing around!

They get bluer from light. I think it's like humans tanning, Has something to do with the pigment. Not sure.

i have seen blue ones at my lfs around here, but they all look dyed this actually looks natural. when i was real little we would go down to the creek and catch crayfish and plop them in our aquariums and then when they got real big my mom would freak out.
