Hiya there...
I recently just add one cool lookin Golden Clown Knife. The supplier told me that this is one of rarer type of Clown Knife and it will look much prettier when adult then regular one..
Regular Clown Knife is somewhat black/grey but mine is golden/brown.
Any more info on this guy? Adult Pictures would be great if you please...
Is he albino? couldn't really tell if he has red eyes or not because the eyes seems glow the same as regular clown...
Will try to post some pics later...

I use to sell them when I worked at a pet shop. I recently purchased a regular and a golden. Unfortuneately, the golden lasted a day :( I like them. They didn't go as quickly as I thought. They are rarer than regular CK, but I think that they just don't really sell so store owners prefer the royal. They look better (in most people's opinion) and they can sell it at a higher cost.

Sorry...it's pretty blurry, but it was the best picture I can get of the 2 together. It's just more of a light tan with brown spottings

Sounds like an albino CK. That's their normal coloring "very light tannish, not too goldish, brown" coloring. Haven't seen a large one though. Best pictures I could find online.

how big is he? if not a young fish and it has any kind of "spots" then its not a royal. Royals have distictive stripes and no distictive spots. I do wonder if there are albino royals though? That would be the ultimate clown knife.

here's my gold CK with my regular CK. they're gorgeus, :D one of my favorite. they're not rare, not easy to find either. it all depends on your LFS. about pricing, yah they're a little more than a regular clown. talk about fast growing fish, it outgrew my RTC and my pacu (lenghtwise) in no time. :grinyes:

all clown knife fish start with stripes instead of spots. as they grow they will change to spots if its not a royal and stripes if it is.. if the stripes are starting to resemble spots than it's most likely a normal golden clown knife.. pics would help though

The picture is a bit blurry and I hate to say it, but until they get bigger and the lines become more pronounce...they look like regular golden clowns.

I know what ya mean with what they look like etc being similar to normal golden clowns! But in saying that, a supplier(illegal to import to oz by the way) has brought in normal clowns, royal clowns twice and this is the 1st batch of albino Royals! All previous shipments have been correct which is a comfort!
I hope Santa brings a Digi camera tomorrow hehe.

I have two gold clowns. One is like the previous picture, gold with brown spots. But my other one has no spots at all. I have been trying to find out if she is really an albino as her eyes are not red. I also have a royal knife. The body shape on the all gold one appears to be the same as my regular clown knife rather than the royal. I have some pics which I will post from home.

I used to have one of these about 12 years ago. Back then they were called "Bronze Clown Knives".
Do any of you guys have any luck feeding your knives by hand with chunk fish?

I don't get why this thread gets this much attention. Yes there are golden clown knives. it is not an issue of lighting they are just a different color morph. Yes there are true albino's they have red eyes and are the same color as goldens. they are not rare just less available.

My guess would be because a lot of people haven't seen em. Just like I'm sure most people that belong to this site belong because they think they've got monster fish or fish tanks. I waited till my 800 was up and running before joining. Peoples perception of monster fish is by their own opinion... Which is fine, but to most people a knife of a different strain or color morph is not common, and they want to see pics:) Just my guess....

I used to feed my gold knife by hand but after getting bit a few times I stopped. She gets very excited and tends to snap at the food in huge bites catching my fingers as well as the fish. My other knives don't like to come up to the top to eat and are very picky about their fish. (They prefer live)

Thanks, I've got a little guy right now, he's only about 5" and needs to gain atleast another five or six before going in with the brutes in the 800. I hate feeding live fish and have gotten other fish that are notorious for just accepting live food to eat prepared or chunk fish. Thanks again.

The brown knives stay small. (relatively) Only 8-9" full grown although I have not seen one bigger than 6". It makes them easier to keep in a smaller tank.

goldern ck are common and just as cheap as a regular ck. if you want somehting rarer than just buy a royal or some other knife.
