i posted on another forum site and they couldnt decide on sex either. i call it a him. from what i read it is a male except for the larger lateral spots. if he would lose those i would know. how big is yours. i saw one at the DC aquarium, every bit of 18" if not more.

If you notice, the head shape is different, fins are slightly different...and as you mentioned the lateral line of "Spots"

how long did it take yours to get that big? mine took a couple years to get to 10" and then added about 2" within a month or two after adding more types of pellets. i know feed tetra jumbo min, tetra cichlid sticks, tetra color sticks, hikari gold large, and hiukari biogold medium. i tried frozen beefheart by pro pops but he grabs them , then spits them out and doesnt touch them. it said you can feed frozen, but im going to try and thaw them out first (as it also says), if that doesnt work my albino bichirs are loving them so it wont be a waste.

I got mine that big for an awesome trade, so i dont know how long it took.....thaw the beefheart and he will probably love it, mine does! lol

thats what i figured. how bad is yours? mine has drawn blood on me twice (100% of the times hes bit me) and he flares up at me if he even sees me in the room. what size tank is yours in? filtration? any tankmates? just want some good info from as many experienced people as i can.

Mine is really pretty laid back and does well with a few tank mates (he is in a 300) Here are some pix of the filter and tankmates.

really?! i would have though it would be too hot for him. i was expecting some sort of scientific name for a harder to find cat. what temp is the tank at? what all do you feed?

Its at about 79 degrees. I feed shrimp, shrimp pellets, beefheart, hakari cichlid pellets, krill, plankton, occasionally feeders, and some other random stuff that im sure im forgetting.

I bow down to your tank! I have so much tank envy when it comes to 200 gallon plus tanks.
One day I will hopefully own a 300 as well. I first have to buy a new house with a conctrete basement floor :( .

There are a lot of tanks here that make mine look like one of those little cups that they sell bettas in. Thanks for the compliment though!!

thanks guys. i would like to breed HER, but she is only in a 55, may not even be enough for her if she gets any bigger. what would you guys consider to be minimum for a breeding pair? or for a bachelorette pad?
this is how i set it up
http://www.repticzone.net/images/21312/IMG_2045.JPG
this is how she wanted it.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c207/reptileguy2727/IMGP0527.jpg
i have now taken out all the plants because she was destroying them and i would like to have them for other fish in future tanks. she now has a couple pieces of driftwood, the big piece of red slate, and some orange sandstone pieces about fist size, a couple of which are carved (holes in them for smaller fish to swim through).

I really like your tank rallysman, nice set up and the fish look great...
As far as a tank for a breeding pair reptileguy I would say minimum 75 gallon, I've never breed them, but jags can get over a foot so I would probably try a wider tank....

i posted it ealier, but i saw a jag at the DC aquarium that was every bit of 18" if not more. so i know they get bigger than mine, especially since mine is apparently a female. any other suggestions on min tank sizes for pair or bachelorette?
Rally,
Is the fish above the cat a flowerhorn/trimac? Your tank looks great.
