Can anyone tell me the differences between the endlicheri bichirs found in the Chad basin and Volta river? I have both, but they look almost the same. The Chad has more brown color and darker bands, while the Volta has more of a grey color and has a longer, leaner body. The Chad has a tall, thick body. Are these just different characteristics of two of the same fish or are they really different because of where they originate? Pictures would help.

exoticfishguy....
At this time there is no difference between the varieties of Polypterus endlicheri from the Chad Basin and Volta River on a scientific level. They are currently considered to be color variations of the same species.

I have Five "Chad Basin" 15"+ and 2 "Volta R." ~10", the voltas are a lot lighter than the chads but Im hoping its because of size and age. I just assume that its a locale difference and there's no significant difference in appearance. Ive got the Bichir Aqualog ordered so Ill let you know if I see anything different.
