do all midases eventually grow a cranial hump - or ius that just some - also is it normal for them to lose their coloration (its the same fish in both the pictures) or will the black come back

males are larger

My female had one starting at the size of 3.5 inches.....Continued to grow from there---She is now 7 to 8 inch and showing a very nice hump for a female...

i'm no expert, but i think that may be a jing kang flowerhorn. i bought a midas/rd from petsmart a few months back and it turned out to be a jk flowerhorn. nice fish

They fade with age...growing whiter or pinkish (or yellowish)

:iagree: To me it looks like it has some flowerhorn in it. Maybe a FHxMidas cross.

it looks like a Fh to me becuz of the pattern on the back half and on the dorsal fin. midas dont have that.

i dont think It would be crossed with a jing kang and accidentally sold at petsmart RD prices. It MAY have some flowerhorn in the mix, but most commonly bought midas' and RD's are RDxMidas... Some people consider MOST hybrids a "flowerhorn".

Anyway, you have got a nice looking fish, it doesnt really matter if it gets a nuchal hump.

And if its at 9", yes it DOES have more to go! Even if its a female they can hit 13"! If its a male, 16"!

It could be a Midas x FH, then that fish crossed with a midas several times. The end result being just a small fraction of FH but with the majority being RD.

Most Red Devils have a nuchal bump explosion (Meaning grows really big) in the 10-13" size range. In that size range, you would usually notice lots of growth on it in a male.
