Yea I just spoke with Mike he said he isn't in any club. He siad he dosen't have time. He said once the store closes he would finally get around to maybe becoming a MFK regular. He said he just dosen't have the time for anything on an consistant basis. But I am going to push hard to get him to start posting here. As we all know he has some real experince with breeding and the hobby as a whole.

I think he would be a great asset to this site.

Did he say he was closing his store? I know business is slow right now, but I didn't think it was that bad.

Another person to talk to would be Kurt with http://www.rockymountaincichlids.com/

I know either him or Sam (one of his business partners who arranged the auction) might know something about a local club.

Yeah I had about the same conversation with Mike last Friday. He is thinking of closing and going internet only. Kinda sucks for us but it's what's best for Mike himself.

Would be up for getting a meet together though, maybe we could even do it at Mikes or something. It would be nice to meet a few of you in the real world.

Yea I would be down for sure to do a meet with everyone and at least see how many we have the want to start a MFK meeting. I only proposed this because Mike is closing and also there is another LFS that I frequent that is changing owners and you know how that goes. The stock at that store may fall. So I figured Mike will be breeding I will be breeding and I know a few of you will also be breeding so maybe we may have something the other is looking for.

Did he say he was closing his store? I know business is slow right now, but I didn't think it was that bad.

Yea he is closing when ever he finishes his stock that is in store and will be concentrating on his breeding program. Besides the Mortgage crisis has made everyone who owns or rents property come out of the pocket more. He also wants to do more at his other jobs so who can blame him. I hope he becomes more of regular here also so we can obtain some of that great breeding knowledge in his head.

So my idea was to see how many people here we could find that are from the MILE HIGH CITY and we can arrange a meet to kick things off find out our different species and breeding ideas. I know we have four or five so that wouldn't displace Mike from doing his day to day if we meet there and we could also pick up some of the last of his stock! So what days work for the rest of you? Weekends work best for me anytime is good.

Yea I will talk to him maybe tomorrow (Mon) and see if it's cool. But as much money as my friends and I spend in there he is always happy to see me. But I am sure we could use something so I am pretty sure we will make some purchases for sure. First so who all has been there before and who hasn't? Second we all need to get on each others buddy list. i have already added everybody here.

Hi everyone,

I'm sad to hear that Mike's Killer fish is closing. He is such a cool cat. I've been there many times and purchased a few piranhas from him in the past. My schedule's pretty tight, but if you set a time and day, I'd try to make it. Mondays and Thursdays work better for me.

All right everybody I just got off the phone with Mike and he said that was cool he would not mind at all. So next order is to agree to a day and time that works for everyone. I read Monday and another weekday because the weekend didn't work for someone? I am open for any day so let decide on which evening if it's going to be in the middle of the week. Is that cool?

When we go for our meet i will remind everyone to get on his email list for local customers. He said he would still be able to get most of what were looking for. Also I began this meet and great idea so that we can all get a fill of where were going in this hobby and to sort of see if anyone else in this group will be breeding and also so we can see if any of the breeders would have anything that were all looking for. I know if Mikes closes then we will have limited access to some of the more exotic and hard to find cichlids and especially all of us with cichila we will be looking to complete our collection so sharing this information could be very helpful for future needs. And besides I just wanted to create a Club of sorts with like minded people. I don't want to hear that same old line about one fish and small fish are the best way to go. I like em big and I like em Monsters. Plenty of em.

#1 March 7 at 6pm. (Fri)
#2 March 8 at 3pm. (Sat)

Let me know how this works for everyone. If there is another date and time that will work in March for everyone please post it here. ( We will have other meets so if you can't make this one no problem) I mainly wanted to do this one becuase Mike is/was the best place to get many of our beloved pets. And I thought it would be only right that we meet at the only real place for us to get true MF. Also he will be having an internet sign up sheet for his customers that wish to still buy and order from Mike. This meeting will be mainly for the purpose of us creating a trading and seeling basis with each and one another. But it wont be the last meet.

I've got too many and none are that nice. I've got a 5.0, too. Ok, so It's an 86 Camaro and doesn't have the 5.0 any more or the same one haha. I'll probably just be driving my stock cobalt unless the weather is crappy.

i usually get off work at 3 or 4 just off of 58th & I-25, so 6 is a little late just because i'll have to screw around for a couple hours, but either date should be fine.

Alright the date has been set and all are eager to meet and greet. As a token of our appritiation please bring your wallet's because as we all know and are sad to hear Killer is no longer going to open to the public. I personally really like Mike and want our first meet to be there because of the quality of service he has shown to this hobby as well as he being an all around "good fella". I plan on picking up an item or two to show Mike some love while we are there. If you have a few extra dollars or need supplies I think it would be nice to put a little change in Mike's pockets as I know he will appriciate it, and as we all know you may pick up a few items/cichlids that you may not find anywhere else in this city! Can't wait to meet all of you and I will see you there! Until then Go Monster or Go Home.

ScullCraca AKA Mike! Thanks for everyone that is making this happen! And don't forget to thank Mike without him we would all have second class LFS Fry!

Man I havent been to some of the places you all are speaking of in years. Especially Sherman's I didn't even know they closed. I feel a little stupid because i have been sending people out there and they were closed. No wonder they all said they couldn't find it. Hey if somene can place the maps to these places on this thread from map quest so we can get an idea of where all these places are that would be great.

Cool Idea, maybe we could get a Colorado fish store thread going. Hey you did know Shermans moved the first time to 64th and Wadsworth or were you sending people over to 72nd and Fdereral:D Anyhow Shermans has reopened at 83rd and Sheridan (near to the Seven Eleven store).

Nah I was just telling people Sheridan! Go until you see it on the right if your going west after federal. I use to live off of 88th and Broadway for a while. Actually I have played all over this city so nothing is hard for me to find!

I know this isn't exactly the right place for this, but my cousin was thinking about buying my 125 gallon tank and I was going to use the money to buy a 7x2x2 I found (plus some more money, obviously), but he is going to PA for 2 months, so he decided not to right now. Long story, sorry, but I really want to get the 210 but need a little cash first, so just seeing if anyone might be interested in it for, say $400? It is all-glass brand, 72x18x22 w/ all-glass brand stand and glass tops w/ lights (not canopy). One of the glass pieces broke on one of the lids, but I put a longer plexi piece in to fill in the top since I don't have all the plastic filler pieces. If no one is interested, do you think I could get $400 fairly easily on CraigsList?

Looking forward to the meet-up on Saturday.

If so list it and let us know what you think. Maybe we can all join a couple of the club's? I checked out the group Dexman informed us about and thought that was a nice looking set up they had there. My dad has an auto repair shop in Loveland and they have a 55 gal, so they are going to buy the 125 from me, so it's sold and if the 210 is still available, I should be picking it up this weekend. I'm excited. I may end up having to miss the meet-up if this all works out :(

I was going to get some of my friends to help me pick up this tank and stuff, but I was wondering if, maybe, some of you would be interested in helping me load it up. I will have help unloading it, it's just loading it that's going to take some coordination. Anyone know how heavy a 210 is? It only took two of us to move the 125 I have, so the 210 shouldn't be a problem for 4, should it?

Don't know the exact weight of the 210g, but my 180g weighs approx 375 lbs(glasscages brand). The biggest thing is that the tank being 24" wide it is much harder to pick up and carry then a 18" wide tank. I would say that 4 men would be needed.

I possiblely could help depending on the time, place. Let me know.

OK, thanks. I'm not exactly sure where in the Denver area it is. I just sent him an email about that. I am not trying to intrude on anyone and I certainly dont' want anyone to feel obligated or anything like that, especially if it a ways a way from Mike's. I'm not sure how long we're going to be at Mike's and the guy is wanting to watch UFC Saturday night, so it might not even work out unless we could load it up before the meet-up. I'll keep everyone posted.

edit: the guy lives in Centennial, so that's pretty far from Mike's. I'll figure something out if nobody wants to help since it's so far away. Again, I don't want to inconvenience anyone and I certainly don't expect any help. We would have to do it before the meet-up, so if anyone is interested, please let me know as soon as you can.

I've met and dealt with Sam and Kurt with rocky-mountain cichlids. Great pair of guys. The two big differences between them and Mike's KF is that RMcichlids is strictly online (local pick-up ok) and that RMcichlids specializes more in African breeds.

I believe the rocky mountain cichlid association was the group responsible for the last fish auction I attended a few months back. Unfortunately, I didn't arrive until late and didn't look around much.

Ah no bid deal because you know he has to run his business so I don't want to be a distraction. I just thought this could be a 30 minute to 45 meet and greet. And to have an official meet at a store of his caliber. Not many people go monster and most don't agree with monster keeping! Haven said that we can do anything on here we can do there other then break the MFK rule's. But it's always good to get a feel for everyone out there and hey, if I have a load of Pb's fry and I know your looking then you can have as many as you need if I have met you and know that much of you and I think everyone feels the same way when I say "A hand shake over a signature any day." Some things I will be curious about is if your breeding? What are you breeding? Location is a key thing also, don't need your address but city location will work? And if I may be able to trade any of my future fry for anything you may have that I may be looking for down the road. I am not trying to cut any Group, LFS, anything out I know there is a younger generation then me present in this hobby and you never know what they can use and offer. Some of the older gentleman like myself may not get that warm feeling from other groups when they find out what I am keeping and how aggressively I have done so. So on that note I feel comfortable around other MFK so no concerns I like people who deal on the up and up and like to be dealt with in the same way. If I was into African's I would be on there forum trying to increase my knowledge and collection and contact's! But since I like the BIG BOY's I have felt some unwanted sneer's and looks that don't sit well with me but anyway see you all there and if you can't make it we will see you here almost every night! I know I will. So I will see you all there and Go Big or Go home! MFKFL!

Hey everyone. Thanks for showing up those of you that were able to make it and thanks for really trying to all those of you that couldn't make it. It was a very nice day to do this and I am proud to say it was exactly what I was hoping it would be the total time of the meet was 1hr and 1/2 so that was great time. Very cool guy's thanks. I showed up at 3:30pm so I could chat a little with mike and see what he had going ahead of time. Great man. A big thanks to Killer Mike. For sure one of the best host a group could ask for and a wonderful eye experience in which to converse in. BIG love to Mike and everyone who couldn't make it should get on down there and check out his wonderful stock and if you can't make it take my word he has a pair of P's there right now that will blow your mind! You must have a BIG TANK. As well as some Female Dovii thre that are showing amazing color also big tank breed, a Fem Red Tiger that is a nice size and amazing color. His stock list is usually current so check it out and some baby Arrow's that are stunning. But as we all know about Mike's easy come easy go LFS! And that's what it makes it so cool you never know what your going to find every time you step in the door!

As for the MFK that showed I think we all covered a lot of information about each other and a Big Shout Out to Conv_DAN! Thanks for all the time and just the plethora of information about your life in the hobby and all of your projects you are working on just to hear about them is amazing. I hope to see him around here, but you all better brush up on your Latin if you don't you will learn just look to these pages and many more to learn. But anyway Thanks goes out to Bderick67, 6bar, Dexman1349, Dan of course very cool man. And of course Killer Mike I thank you the most because with out you none of this could be possible!! Thanks for everyone for sharing there hobby's/stories/setup's/ and future aquarium goal's with us all. Thanks.

It's just something you get more out of it when you can talk about it with other people who wish to hear and give equal input about your ideas. When someone can see your dreams and build with them through words it feels good. And to be congratulated on your success only helps all of the failed project's or endeavors that we all have been through. Communication is the key to this hobby and I have learned more in the past three months since becoming a member then I care to mention. So for all the guys that showed up share your experience here with the other's or start your own thread. If you guys would like to attend any of the event's up and coming together post it here. I truly had a great time next time we can take a suggestion of were we should meet. until then if anyone has any question's or anything PM me anytime?

We all have a love for our aquarium's and love to to talk about them with people who actually care and will give you the opportunity to talk about and express yourself. Some people may not get it and don't understand why you have three large tanks set up in your family room! Or when you tell them what you feed your fish has them looking like there ready to leave right now! We have a hobby they may not agree with and we want praise for all of the hard work not sighs or the look of confusion. But the actual interest in our tanks that we admire so much we want the same praise that we see when talking to someone about our thanks that's what we want to hear but may not get from friends (even friends with tanks sometimes don't get it) friends outside of the hobby or family members who think your crazy for wanting another 500g tank in the same room with the a 240g and a 150g and three 125g's and how ever many 75g and under! Welcome and you have place here. I am not big on Joining Fee's, Joining Clubs or any congregating for the purpose of gain. In other words if it's free I am with it. But I don't have time to do anything on regular basis or come out of my pocket. With that being said I like to talk shop and listen so that is what this is all about talking shop and listening! Talking MFK Style! Thanks to everyone that is apart of this hobby and MFK. Can't wait to see where the future takes us.

I won't be making it to the auction. Has Mike shut down the retail store yet?

I haven't talked to him yet, but what about a meet at MTN PIKE's sometime pretty soon?

That would be a great idea if Mtn Pike is open to the idea. Where does he live?

Hi every!

I am new to this things. I just wanted to let everyone know that i am looking for a polypterus Weeksii or polypterus endlicheir. I have multiple tanks and love these fish. I really like strange fish that look like this and so if anyone knows where i might be able to locate one in CO I would be so happy! I have experience with these fish, but i can't seem to find one. I recently went to the store the Golden Fish off of Colfax and they had a few of the delhezi, but they were really small and did not look to good. So if anyone would be able to help me with this it would be great.

Thanks everyone. =)
