I thought it would be kool to teach my Oscar to leap for his food 'at first it worked and was easy to do but now the problem is he gets extemly excited when i walk past the tank and he bops his noodle into the top of the tank every time.

i'll be on the cpu and i hear a huge splash and a bang time to feed him again
so now i risk getting my fingers getting latched onto and him scratching himself on the tanks edge
he manages to get about a 1/2 of his body through the naror front openig everytime
I guess i should have never showed him that seaworld clip of the dolphins feeding :D

crazy fish :screwy:

I somewhat agree. Back in the day, i had an all oscar tank and i used to teach them how to jump for krill. It got to the point where you have to throw the food real quick or youll either get splashed, or your fingernails scraped or worse , your thumb bit.

On a positive note, feeding time were always action packed. :D

My oscars do the same thing. I can't open the lid the whole way to feed them anymore or they will jump out. :)

Be careful with that, my oscar jumped out of the tank one night and I wasn't around to save the little guy ... poor thing, wish we never taught him to jump for food.

Yah i would be carefull that he doesnt jump out. My bf bro has an oscar and he taught her to jump up to ring a bell thats over the tank for food, he rung the bell and fed her food and eventually she caught on so she would ring the bell when she was hungry and that requires her to jump and one night she just jumped out of the tank =( but my bf saved her so she still alive!

looking forward to the video!

yeah, me too :D My male trimac used to hit the surface really hard for food until the day I raised the lid and no sooner than I could grab the food container he had jumped out and landed on the floor. I think he learned his lesson because he doesn't hit the surface nearly as hard for food anymore.

i absolutly CANNOT hold the bag of pellets over the water or one of my o's WILL jump up and grab it, once he landed on the enge and i had to nudge him back into the water. silly fishies :)

I never taught mine to jump, but he would bang his head on the hood all the time. I had to tape the hood down to keep him from escaping, LOL!!!

I'm teaching my bass to jump for food right now. My younger brother was holding a frog about 3 inches from the water not even paying attention and BAM. the bass nabbed it.

It was cool.

I don't plan on stopping the jumping lessons but I will take procautions now.
