This is a small CL I've had for about a week and a half. He seemed alright coming into my tank, would go after algae wafers regularly. After a few days, he was not as active, but would still eat. For the past two or three days, all he did was lay on his side on the sand, but would move when somebody approached the tank. Today, he just sat there and was unresponsive. He passed away about 30 minutes ago. The body showed no sign of external disease (e.g. ich, fungus, fin rot), but there was a small darker area on his stomach. The following are several pictures of the area. If anyone can identify the cause of death, it would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to get my conditions right before buying some more loaches.

It shows best in the bottom two pics, but the mark is a brownish area under the left pectoral fin. It coincides with the second stripe.

Looks very skinny. Internal Parasites possible.

:iagree:

most likely it had internal parasites and it was just wasting away.

Thanks for the quick assessment. I feared that it might happen since his appetite seemed to decrease. Would the parasites also have caused the lesions on his side?

Sorry. Had the image saved as the wrong extension.
