I was at the store the other day and they had dwarf mosaic gar. Does anyone have any info on these guys? Especially, how big does a dwarf gar get?

Are there a lot of behavior differences between the "true" gars and the other types?

Problem i found with mine was that it was too jumpy and skittish! Any movement would sent it into the glass! Tank size was fine and he just always wanted out! One of the only fish, knock on wood, I have lost and not known really why!?

is that mean it is fake gar ?
is that mean it is fake gar ?
No, just that the fish sellers have used a common name that gives buyers an idea of what it looks like.

I had mines for 3 months, won't eat anything but feeders and keeps crashing into the glass. Do these fish ever stop doing that over time?

I've owned 2 in the past and never had problems with them crashing into the glass. I now have 1 hujeta gar and still haven't had that problem. When I first put them in the tank they were really jumpy/ skittish but, once they settled in they were fine. At least that's been my experience w/ them. Just yesterday I was doing a water change and stuck my hand in the tank to replant some plants and the hujeta gar was right next to my arm and didn't freak out. It'll just take some time. In my experience with these beautiful pike characins they're more reclusive. They prefer to hide amongst the plants. Coming out when they settle in to the tank or settle down from a disturbance. Goodluck w/ yours.
