Hi MFKers...

Well..here are the pics..

This is the one with a better body shape and man, the red!!

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=2/medium/P10102391.JPG

This is the pic of the 2 pieces together...they do add alot of color to the tank..and yes, alot alot of growing to do as well!

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=2/medium/P10102411.JPG

Just a pic of the tank they are in...they are the 2 red dudes in the tank:

there is not much trick with the lights..as you can see from my last picture..all the other fishes are not reddish in color.

That oscar has to be injected. Its color is unatural.

Yes..no doubt coloration is unnatural...this is indeed another variation of oscar..the first time i saw such type is a pair of huge adults..and color just intense...

there might be possibility of color injection..but if thats the case, the dye would not have filled the fins and tail coloration...

there available through a number of florida based fish farms , have a look at ur LFS's LIVE FISH CATALOG (IT SHOULD HAVE ALL THE FISH THEY CAN GET)

give um half the cash in advance and they'll get it for you ("ruby" oscars sell real quick as well)

just ask around before going to sponsors and paying a ****load in shipping +what they paid from the same place ur store gets fish(unless they import like wes and anthony)

if you notice for the dyed parrots, their color is only vibrant during their juvenile stage....once they get into their semi adult size..they will fade to black.

for this oscar...i have seen 10-11" specimens stil retaining the color.

Anyway I agree with you about seeing full grown dyed fish. I have seen 10" blue berry oscars( oscars that are dyed blue) that still have blue throughout their body and fins. So certainly it would not be shocking if these oscars are dyed albinos.

The reds of your oscars reminded me of an article of only two months ago in TFH (March 2005) about someone (a physicist and engineer, Margie Luce, who keeps 35 aquaria!) who unintentionally fed bloodworms to her 15 year-old pleco, and all the fin edges of the fish became red! (I've been trying to do it with my 4 and a half year old pleco without success).

... I don't mean to go off topic, so back to Mr. and Ms Oscar: In that same issue there is a nice article on who else but "The Amazing Oscar" (by Wayne Leibel); it summarizes an article "On the Reproduction in Captivity of the Oscar" (Amazonia X, 1989): If you have a pair, you could expect sex and babies for almost 10 years from those folks, the frequency of sterility in the study being only 1-2 %. Leibel calculates the number of progeny to be almost 40,000 per pair. May you be so lucky! You could give one free bloody red to every single member of this site! I think I should get the first one, however! :)

Those are ruby red oscars, Ive seen a tankfull at one time in a LFS here in Las Vegas. But the one in the LFS were not that intense of a red and the store just use a regular florescent lighting.
Those pics looks like a color red will significantly enhance, notice the other fish tail w/ red color, it looks like its glowing and the belly of that arowana is also glowing w/ red color.
Hmmmm...............

BTW, Those ruby red oscars where selling quick, but I did not buy one since its been dyed w/ coloring enhancers for aesthetic reason.

What else are they called? Is there a link on the web where people have posted some full grown pics?

These are a RARELY occuring varation but they are truely this colour and not dyed or injected. Ive seen them before on www.oscarfish.com (http://www.oscarfish.com) go to the articles section and find the article about colour varations, if the need be i can try and dig it up.

Those red Oscars are amasing. Where did you find such intense fish? Are they available in Canada. Are they natural?

I think you may be right, they probably are photoshopped. That red is too intense.

That's disgusting, too bright and unnatural. Looks dyed too, what a disgrace.

if they are dyed...and lets face it Singapore does have a bad rep for that, then get them off here..!!!.... it is so wrong.

If they are a variation....like the EBJD, then fair enough....mad looking fish!!

they are not dyed, they are bred to be all red and bright red at that. just a breeding extension of wild oscars to tigers to reds.

***note: i do not have any scientific literature to site, only what I have heard and believe***

well, it may be. But I find funny the way the red is breaking up on the body. It looks segmented, kinda like when its a natural thing, rather than fading. We wont know for sure until someone here gets one and grows it out. If its real, then I would love one.
