Mostly towards other tankmates!? Territorial? or just straight out killers?

most cichla are laid back and dont terrorize tank mates.

they will eat tank mates, if they will fit in their mouth:)
I have three in a tank with an albino oscar, Tsn, and three gold belly barbs

I think they will just eat anything they can fit in their mouth.

my temensis was more mellow/shy than my monos, but as long as they don't look like food, pbass mind their own biz, and can even get victimized...my clownknife killed one of my pbass

My Mono has been real mellow thus far. I had to take my Pike cichlid back a month ago bc he was roughing up my pbass. The pbass would never put up any fight against him even though they were both 4'' or so. Bn the two of them the Pike had to go esp since the pbass was in bad shape from all the agression so the lfs prob would have had a tough time finding a good tank for him where he could recover. The bass is doing great now and the Pike found a new home with some guy who has a more agressive tank. The pbass has never really bothered my leporinus or pictus cat. I hope that he will stay this way as he starts to really grow.

They are all mellow as long as they can't swallow anything. They'll try and swallow things up to 3/4 their size.
money is not an issue :) ...
wish i had the same scenario

I have had problems with all the types of cichlas at one point in time.
Cichla Monoculus: (Domestic or Farm raised) tend to get nasty after about 13"-14" some can get get aggressive earlier depending on their environment.
Wild Cichla Monoculus: in my experience have been aggressive since juveniles.
Cichla Monoculus "Rio Negro": in my experience have been aggressive since juveniles. I have not had the chance to keep this cichla yet, but I have a buddy that has 2 for about 2 years now and I check his out.
Cichla Orinocensis: are aggressive from juveniles in my experience. Tend to mellow down once they get large. But I expect them to get SUPER AGGRESSIVE during spawning, have not done it yet, but I am guessing on their general behavior.
Cichla Orinocensis Sp. Venezuela: are medium aggressive, they will hold their own but don't tend to start fight too often.
Cichla Ocellaris: (Domestic or Farm raised) tend to get nasty after about 12"-13" some can get aggressive earlier depending on their environment.
Wild Cichla Ocellaris: are aggressive from day one. (Florida types in my experience)
Cichla Temmensis "true": are not aggressive until they hit about 17" or more... But once they become aggressive they are AGGRESSIVE. In my experience they are the most aggressive of all the cichla once they become. But you will never no they are aggressive until that time comes. As my largest is 27" and is the tank controller.
Cichla Temensis "Tapajo": In my experience so far their aggression is somewhat like an orinocensis and temensis mixed together. But I only have one juvenile speciman and can't really make full determinations on him/her till I get more and/or it gets a bit larger.
Cichla Azul: so far these guys seem to be the most aggressive as juveniles, they fight and continueously challenge each other like guapote cichlids. But like the orinocensis they might calm down when they get larger. We will see in about a year.
Cichla Intermedia: Have not had experience with these yet. But my guess is very close to the cichla Xingu I and II and cichla orinocensis. One day I hope to confirm that.
Cichla Xingu I and II: pretty much same as the cichla orinocensis
That's about all I can think of right now.
Good luck with your cichla
