I haven't got my main tank off the ground yet, so haven't got my clown loaches yet.. but was curious why CL's are classified as bottom dwellers.. basically, to what extent are they bottom dwellers? What percentage of time do they spend on the bottom?

99.932172491% IMO unless its feeding time....
Or if you have driftwood and the such. They'll spend time laying on driftwood near the middle strata of your tank.

Hmm... this might actually work out... I'll have fish statospheres going then.... I'll have to find some compatible fillers for the top of the tank.
Thanks!

They like to be in groups, the more the merrier! Plenty of places to hide in too.
Of course, if it's a new tank then don't get the whole lot straight off, build up numbers gradually. In fact, best to cycle the tank with a hardier species first, or even better, use a fishless cycling method.

Ive seen them come up off the bottom to rest higher on decorations they like...other than that, bottom most all the time except feeding.

I keep discus, angels, and rainbows with mine and it seems to keep all the levels of my tank pretty active.

Are any of those schooling?

The rainbows all school together. The discus all hang out in the same general area, but don't really "school".

A great balanced tank IMO has loaches stacked from the bottom to the top!
