"Caveman-FH are cool dont know why they are so hated in some groups."
What are the reasons why we like / dislike flowerhorns. Pros and Cons?
I like flowerhorns because they are such unique fish with so much personality.
Not one FH is alike and their beauty (specially on high end FH ) are something else.
I know Purists do not like them because they might taint the bloodlines of
their parent fish ( like Trimac ) and that they are also "Franken Fish" fish culled
from several different species and therefore not "pure".

opinions between flowerhorn aficionados and detractors. Please keep it
civil and polite.

I like them because they are so diverse. Most stlyes of FH are only around for a few years before new style appears. I think they are good to have around as along as they are being sold as hybrids and not pure species.

Ya, I have to agree with that....
most the time it's worth it though.:)
I like those with nice feature but doesn't like the price tag they comes along with.

I like how they always come out with new FH
But i dont like how they dictate the market by saying which one is in
and which are out .

you got the fh enthusiasts to blame for that redtail

In a way but the farms are partly responsible too. They only "produce" a limited number of new fish to create a demand for it. The farms dictate when they will produce the new strains and how many they will bring out.

I like FH because of the distinguishing kok..hahah
iheartfishies
06-06-2005, 11:29 PM
the KOK is the best part.
I love when they're massive.
Can females get gigantic ones?
Like that one KOK on the poor FH that looked like he couldn't swim with his?
Does any one know what I'm talking about?!

I am not sure what you are talking about.
Just kidding
They look like they get in the way of the fish to me- you now weighing it down. Sure I think the females can get them - much smaller.
Some can really be pretty and damm expensive. I seen them go for nearly $700.

well i don't know a ton about them but they look pretty cool. i think it's a little silly not to like a specific fish because it's a hybrid. most aquaruim fish are a hybrid of some sort.

okay i just read an atrical about people usueing hormones and chemicals to enhance fish. and once the hormon and/or chemicals wear off the fish loose their color and become lethargic. now i get the argument, this would be wrong. but i see nothing wrong with useing vitamins and minerals to give the fish the best of health.

Hi guys, since this is an open forum just want to throw in my point of view, there are lots of species of fish out there that can give us equally good characters, equally challenging and beautiful so why intervene in natures course.. :)

I like em but as Neo said the aggresiveness can be a liability sometimes.
Whats your take on hobbyists that take FH's teeth out so that they can make
them more of a community fish ?

I hate them with a passion, they are unnatural that someone produced to make money, period. The only reason why they are so popular is b/c they demand such a huge price tag, and when someone sees them for less then they are usually going for they are instantly bought. There are much better cichlids out there then the mutilated flowerhorn, like the trimac cichlid, which happens to be the FH origin.

Koji has some beautiful FH's. Makes me want one if they all looked as good as his.
What I don't like about them is that they breed like rabbits....actually their breeding habits are worst than rabbits, I use to have FHs, ended up with too much fry.
does any one have pictures of a flower horn .Bought one the other day about 3 inches for 10 dollars.what do they look like full grown.to me they look like wanna be fire mouth at that size.

They have different strains of flowerhorns with different colorations and patterns.
The most common one looks like a trimaculatus on steroids.

The ones that I have seen that are truly nice and show promise seem to cost an arm and a leg. Correct me if I am wrong. Im not a big hybrid fan....

2 years ago prices were really ridiculous. a nice specimen would cost you
a minimum of 500 upwards... Now the market as leveled itself and you
could get a nice fh for a few hundred.
Still more expensive as the cichlids next door but you have to consider that for every FH hatch there will only be a couple of specimens out of hundreds that have the potential to be real nice and out of that couple only 1 or 2 might turn up real nice. Consider also how long selective breeding took for the fh to achieve that look.

Some people think that there like a mixed dog and it is emproper breeding or what ever the word is :screwy: but i feel fish are different its all about the look and there isnt much better then a flower horn...

I LIKE THE UNIQUENESS OF THE FISH, NOTHING ELSE IS THIS MEAN WITH DISTINGUISHING BODY CHARACTERISTICS. YOU CAN BUY A COUPLE FRY AND GROW THEM OUT IN A REASONABLY SHORT TIME, AND SEE WHAT U END UP WITH. THEY ARE ALSO REALLY EASY TO BREED.
i like the color and the hump of FH :headbang2

I never knew fh until my ex introduced them to me. So i'll say, i like fh cuz of a woman. Is that a valid reason?
