Few people here keep Pleco tanks without any problems. In my own experience I had three Plecos in one of my tanks at one point, and two of them would just go at it the whole day!
I think it really depends on how lucky you will get with personalities and male:female ratio.

Just make sure they have enough hiding places so they would not see each other all the time.

My Rhino killed off a Rubbernose, but it's all trial-and-error, so they may or may not, who knows?

I have had five different plecos in one tank- with little problems. give them lots of food, and hiding spaces.

I use to have 3 common Plecostmus together 2 were over 12" and smaller was 9". The 2 larger would go at it all day leaving the smaller one alone.
if they are younger, therefore smaller, i've kept many species together, but always seperated them before they became big enough to be boystrous
i'd just like to add a question to the thread. for those that do keep more than one species in a tank, how big of a tank do you suggest to do so??
Some fight, some don't, the more different the species are the less likely they are to fight.
As to tank size, it depends on the species kept, there is a big difference between a 4" zebra and a 14" royal panaque.

If i had, or do have more than 4-5 plecos, would they fight each other? and there all diffrent breeds of plecos. It should be alright. If you have 2 equal size pleco, it may counter some chase and 'pushing' but really a fight, but along as they're some hiding place, it should be fine.
I've 9 panaque in the 4ft tank, no problem..

Be careful what kind of plecos you house together. I can't think of the names offhand, but there are some exceptionally agressive species out there that will not mix with other plecos. Some won't even mix with other bottom-dwelling fish without a lot of fighting.

I have 2 comon pleco's they chase each other around once in a while!!
Sometimes even fin damage!!
My Royal is pretty aggressive especially when it comes to drift wood, he doesn't like anyone messing with his driftwood. Also I have a sailfin that does not go after other plecos but he is really aggressive at going after food and pushing others out of the way.

I don't worry so much about the other plecos as i do about my oscar. I had 4 plecos, 3 common and a tiger, and thid afternoon I had 2 plecos (still the tiger thank god) and a weird swimming oscar. I have a feeling the rough pleco wasn't as easy to get down as a shiny slippery minnow...

Blue Panaques go for around $30-50. A common Bristlenose will go for $3-15. Depends though there are those in the ancistrus family that go for over $1000. Watch blue Panaques also, they are small and easily eaten. I had one eaten by my Marble Pim a few months back. He had a nice lump on the side of his stomach, and didn't eat much for almost a week.

As many have pointed out some species are more apt to be aggressive. However, it all depends on the specific one you get. I have had bristlenose that have been tolarant of all fish, while another I had kill a choclate plec twice his size, as well as a banjo cat, talking cat, bumblebee cat, pictus cat, and another bottom dweller which I cannot think of off the top of my head. If you house them properly you should not have any problems. I have an 5.5" Acanthicus Adonis with a 6.5" Leporacanthicus Joselimai and a 10" Choclate and he does fine, no fighting at all. Actually I have seen all three eating off of one piece of cucumber at the same time.
i know someone who has a medium to large, pleco sp. tank only, and hes got at least 15 different types, and they all get along fine, just because the way he aquascaped with a lot of plants (plastic and live) and he made a lot of cave systems and lots of bogwod with holes in. He says its good to have about 3 potential spawing types for every pleco. When keeping lots of different types.

What kind of plecos have you been trying to keep together?

would kinda make sense, keeping a load of large plecos youd need a beast of a tank. that and most large plecos are highly territorial
