i want to buy a 1.5 gallon rectangle tank that fits perfectly under a part of my table. the tank would fit perfectly but i dont think i can fit a filter over it.
if i have like only once african mbuna will it need filtration and aeration?

Not nearly big enough....Only a betta or some 2 white clouds will fit in the 2.5. I like a single plant, betta, and snails. I would at least add a small air-stone though....

i found a hang on filter that fits.
i think im gonna have a few shell dwelling tanganyikans. kinda tired of mbunas.
or i could get a tiny reptile that doesnt grow too big.
Nothing in a 1.5 gallon. Not even shell dwellers. A betta might be more in your league.

youre joking. no shell dwellers in a 1.5g long?
i think the dimensions are approximately 14 inches in length, 8 inches in height and 6 inches in depth.

they actually look pretty interesting. when you said shrimp i immediately thought of the bamboo shrimp (feathers hands that collect food floating in the tank.)
anything interesting about these shrimp?

a 1.5 gallon is going to be way too small for a bamboo shrimp. For a 1.5 gallon you're definitely going to have to stick to bettas, white clouds, or the smaller shrimp like the cherry reds and ghost shrimp.

This video is interesting to me. I would get 6 or so. 3 red 3 black and add some moss :)

no cichlid will ever be happy in a tank that size, why ask for advice when u dont seem to want to follow it.
with such a small tank your choices are limited, try shrimp, white clouds, bettas, maybe even neons if u feel so inclined.

1.5g is teeny tiny. Other than a betta, you can look at a miniature water frog (the kind that get about 1/2 inch total length. Re-consider the ghost shrimp - in a brightly lit tank with some neat aquascaping, they are very cool to watch.
No cichlids tho - why would you force an active, boisterous fish into a tiny tank like that?

im thinkin crystal red shrimp. but are they like ghost shrimp? i saw this one ghost shrimp defending its food from another fish!
plus how much would a high grade crystal red be? ive never seen any shrimp that i though was a pet except for a saltwater mantis shrimp. i see a bunch of ghost shrimp everytime but i think theyre sold as feeders.

if you go saltwater, you could give Thor amboinensis a shot (I can't say the common name without getting a pm from the auto-bot) Ive seen it done an aquaria smaller than that.

forget about it. im sticking with freshwater.
You mentioned reptiles. I don't know if you want arachnids, but there are some scorpions that will fit in that tank. There are some spiders too.

How about a dwarf puffer? They are really tiny and need to be alone. Well maybe a shrimp or two.

no fish and i mean no fish not even a betta should be forced to live in there . shrimp ae your best choice and are very interesting and there is no point in asking about fish because any responsible person will tell you it should not be done .

scorpion?? is there like a dwarf scorpion that maxes out at 2-3 inches? thought about a scorpion but i thought they were all 6inches+.
and the only reptile i would want is a lizzard or gecko that looks good and stays at a small adult size.
my mom hates anything that has to do with reptiels, spiders, you know the rest. shes afraid theyll find a way out.
still heavily considering the crystal red shrimp.

High grades are a little spendy, but if you go low grade you could eventually end up with some high grades. Can't go wrong with shrimp and low light moss.

i would have to wait like a year for them to breed and produce some high grades. might as well buy some high grades that might end up producing low grades haha.
i hope its not like 5 bucks for a SSS.

no cichlid in that tank. my filter holds more water than that. lol. best bet is shrimp, i wouldnt even suggest a betta (should be kept in a 10 gallon) most reptiles are going to need a much bigger tank than that aswell

That is a CRS with no red :WHOA: The grading is based on how much white there is as well as symmetry in the pattern. All white 1,000 seems a bit low. That is for 1 piece though. A grand for something smaller than your pinkie fingernail...:headbang2How could that not be monster?:headbang2

From my experience with a 1 gallon this is what i would suggest.
You could try African dwarf frogs, they are fully aquatic and quite entertaining.
A single betta or one or two platties would work fine.
A crayfish would be easy to keep. I currently have a single crayfish in a 1 gallon and he loves it.
The shrimp idea sounds great to me. You could probably keep a small group without much difficulty.

seriously who made up these prices? are they hard to breed? high demand?
wouldnt it suck if something were to go wrong during the transfer to your tank?
still considering. so its possible to get some C grades and end up with some SSSSSSSS grades? or unlikely.

if you think about it, youre actually paying for a 1 inch shrimp that lives for a year and dies. thats it.

You only need 2 to make a million...:) It boils down to what you get in to them for. Entertainment and just to look at them, get low grades and replace them when they expire. To have forever and potentially make some lights out specimens, invest in the proper equipment to breed them and research until the cows come home.
popcorn1
03-02-2008, 6:58 AM
i dont think i have a choice for low grades or high grades. ima go with some c grade specimens or if i can find some better deals. this is the reason i bought a puny 3 gallon in the first place. how would they look in there with a better set up.
now if only i could find a light that stands vertically. note the .5mm space between the tank and the shelf.
bigspizz
03-02-2008, 7:03 AM
I would put 8-12 in there and "c" is low grade. That is what I have I think. I might have "b"'s? What is making the beam of light at the to right of the pics?

my lamp and it does not look good on the fish tank. looks darker in person and reflects without a light by it.

03-02-2008, 7:17 AM
Does it have to be all the way back against the back? The desk looks like you could move it out, without the threat of knocking it off from an elbow bump. Then you could buy a strip light. They make them for that size tank. You could grow some moss also.
popcorn1
03-02-2008, 7:24 AM
yeah that would solve everything but it would look so much more compact in its little space. would tiny leds on each corner worK?

Not for plants, but for the shrimp, I think so.

hey spizz look at this. ima do what this guys doing.
Thats what I am doing now, my C grade shrimp just gave birth last week and from what I read in this awesome site there will be roughly 20% C, 60% B 20 % A grade shrimp and you can select the A grade shrimps to breed and get more A grade shrimps.... The only other thing is S grade shrimps may have newbee/bumblebee genes in them and that means you may not be able to acheive S grade or above shrimps with this method. But I do like the "candy" look of A grade shrimps and I think the fun part of rearing shrimps is actually the journey itself of constantly trying to improve the colours and patterns of the shrimp and not solely of the "end product" itself. http://www.shrimpnow.com/forums/images/smilies/7/grin.gif

Sweet plan! Good luck bro. Put me first on the list for an a grade shipment :) We could swap gene pools down the road if we both succeed...http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/images/icons/icon3.gif I am working with the black variety right now.

No, I live in Washington, I just pay attention to things going on all over. I think 2-15 per shrimp should not shock you. Put them on hold, take pics and post them if you do not feel comfortable.
