Tetraodon palembangensis, one of my favorite species of puffers. How long have you had it? I know many people have had trouble keeping it alive as they are prone to disease. I had mine for 6 months and grew from 3"-8" and died all of a sudden.

Puffers aren't any more prone to disease than any other fish. clean water is the trick to keeping any fish. 50% weekly water changes is the trick to healthy puffers & fish in general.

Here's the biggest one I kept. I grew him from 2" to about 7" before trading him. He was all beat up with bite marks all over when I got him and it took a lot of TLC to help him recover.

I was away and had missed a couple feedings. My fahaka was so excited about getting something to eat that after he quickly gobbled down a chunk of shrimp he gave me a nice big puff, or semi puff. He stayed puffed for a while as I headed off for bed but the next morning he was back to normal and begging for more food.

Here's my faithful little puppy... er... fahaka puffer named Beaker. I got him back in February at a scrawny ~2" or so and he's a healthy ~5" right now. He's living the good life in my 135G with my albino bristlenose who does a good job of cleaning up after him (the pleco definitely holds his own for now, but later he'll have to find a new home if Beaker changes his mind about playing nice with him). Evidently he's a little camera shy though because this is the best shot I could get of him today. Trust me - it's the only time he's EVER been shy in his life.

I've had him on krill/bloodworms/plankton/snails/earthworms/ghost shrimp so far, but this last week I decided to give him a treat. We had some fiddler crabs dropped off at our store so, since we don't sell them normally, I took them home to see what Beaker would do with them. What great instincts! He went right for that big ole claw and put it out of commission before taking down each and every last one of 'em in pretty quick fashion. Granted, he looked like a stuffed pig for a couple days because I didn't expect him to eat them all at once, but he loved 'em! I'll have to add red clawed crabs (easier to find around here) to his diet now since he loved those fiddlers so much. Hopefully he doesn't get so spoiled with live foods that he won't eat his frozen stuff!

HI guys, I'm new to the Forum & just wanted to share a few photos of my new friend. =)

I got this King Kong Puffer (Tetraodon palembangensis?) in August; he's about 3.5 inches. He use to be shy & skiddish, but lately is beginning to familiarize with me & is becoming real bold. He swam up & bit the feeding dish just yesterday. =P I know the tank is TINY for him, but so far, he's doing great. will be looking to transfer him to big tank soon, but for now...he looks happy to me o_O

this would be my third puffer, I started out with a pair of pea puffers & traded them in for a Takifugu ocellatus. Had it (Emmy) for a bit more than one year before he jumped out his tank & died. ='( Only picture I have of him b/c he was CONSTANTLY moving. very hyper puffer I had.

My Fahaka and two other puffers I ordered that I was told were fahakas. Shipped from somewhere in asia/pacific area overnight. Picked up special from midway airport by my favorite local pet store. Not fahakas so I kept looking until I got one. I liked the two others so I kept them Takifugu Rubripes I believe any input would be appreciated.327434

Might be a Pustulatus (hopefully) or a Pustuhaka (mixture of Lineatus and Pustulatus). Time will tell ...

No matter what, it is the most funny fish we´ve ever had.
