Well heres the deal. I live in Alaska :welcome: and even though I manage the fish department at a petstore and have some really good connections I can only seem to get my hands on a leichardti arowana <sorry if my spelling sucked> as far as rare ones go. Im looking for something really special for my 210 gallon tank at home. Ive yet to find a picture that makes the leichardti look any different from a jardini. :wall: Anyone have any input on either a cooler arowana that I could specifically look for, where I could get one, or maby just a really good picture of a leichardti that would convince me otherwise? :help2: Any help would be great. :help2:

Here are some pics of my leichardti 22 inches.

Deffinatley not as nice as an asian. But IMO good value for money if you cant afford an asian.

Asians vary a lot in coloration but the body structure is very close. Some are more compact than others. They can range in price from a few hundred to 50K and upwards. They are illegal to import here in the US due to the endangered species act. They are also a CITES animal.

I would settle for a nice Black arowana. Great bang for the buck.

Despite being endangered ,is not the asian arowana fairly common--when you have a value that great for a fish, due to cultural reasons--there is great financial motivation too breed such a fish.Despite being rare in the wild domestic stocks are secure for the preservation of the asian arowana.
Black and silvers are common because of wild collecting,as has Jardini more recently.I bought my Leichardti, because it was uncommon--maybe not a good reason---but after scouring the internet looking for good pictures of leichardti and not finding any--i took a chance.
Am i wrong about Leichardti ,was it fairly obtainable,up to now of course-due to ban.Maybe it's not as readily available because it's not much in demand--should i have gotten a jardini or black or redtail golden asian arowana--all i know is after having my Leichardti for three weeks now, seeing it ---i feel i made a good decision.
I find it odd that silver and black arowanas wouldn't be easier to get in Alaska ,as you probably have the same difficulties getting fish as canadians do--and they are very readily available

Oh I can get silvers and blacks. I also already have a jardini thanks to a good budy of mine who works at a fish distributer in Washinton. I do the fish ordering for three stores so I have a little pull. But none of my five distributers have anything rarer than a leichardti. I'm just really into my rare fish, and silvers and blacks are just to common for my taste. I could fill my tank with silvers if I wanted to I get six inchers for about 15 dollars. But a leichardti might have to do. After searching some pics id love a redtail golden asian but I cant see spending more than 500 for a fish and not getting divorced. Even then its risky.

:grinyes: I agree, the black arrowana is very cool . Somone once came into my store and asked for a blue one? Never heard of it, same as jardini perhaps?

blue arrow = black arrow.

Alot of distributors have been calling black arrows 'blue' arrows in an attempt to drum up more sales :\

Black and Blue are the same (maybe not on your body!). In FL they call them Blue because they're illegal! Stupid law because Silvers were once illegal here.

no arguments, get a CROSS-back golden asian arowana(malaysian gold). gold color reaches up the 6th level scales. there are a few color variants, blue-base( bukit-merah), green-base(emerald), and gold-base(24k). gold base is the best!just imagine a proud 24k masterpiece of layered scales!

or you can settle for a super red, either a chili(better) or a blood red.

if not, get the red-tail golden arowana(indonesian gold). gold up to the 5th level only

or even a green asian, a purple-back green asian is as exotic as a red.

no doubt, the ASIAN dragon is king

Even though you find a cheap asian aro for like a less then 500 you still wouldn't be able to keep it since their illegal in the US like most of us have said

Is a Leichardti any less aggresive than a jardini or are they really no diffrent?

Lei's are probably a little more tolerant of tankmates then jars, but yea kinda no diff.
Awsome lei by the way.

awesome lei's everyone...Even so, I find they fail to capture the magnificence, the bulk of those bulldogs of the aro world which are Jar's....

Black aro's are also very beautifull fish with the blue and yellow tinges on them..they tend to appear more and more as silvers as they develop, in any case ( nothing more beautifull than a 5 inch black aro, is there? )

Asians you have them of all sorts..from the most beautifull to the quite unassuming ones...I would prefer a massive jar to a massive green, any day....
