Depends on the care they are given and the food they are fed. Some discus will never attain a size of 8", some will only take 10-12 month from birth to get to being 8".

A discus can be considered full size at around 16-18 months.
Getting them over 8 inches requires a lot of effort and often is not possible unless you yourself are breeding the fish that you're growing out.
It requires dilligent care and absolutely pristine water from day 1 along with an experienced feeding regimen - nitrates literally must be below 10 ppm for nearly the first year of the discus life.
That's not to say that it isn't possible with discus you've obtained through reputable breeders, but it's unlikely.
As in all fish, a good way to tell if a discus has been stunted is to compare the size of it's eyes to the size of it's body...

Not familiar with P-Bass but I've always been of the opinion that discus should be kept in a species specific tank.

yea i seen some really cool comabtions i really like the aro and dizcus look but i have p bass too so if it could work with aro i'm pretty sure it could work with my p bass since aros have a huge mouth!

Seen some 8 inch+ wild discus for sale the other day at £50 or $100 each a bit of shock to see them at that size. The biggest I've got mine to in the past is 5-6 inch it may be a better way to go rather than try to get them maxed out yourself but the water would need to be near perfect to keep them.
Just an idea...

Seems too cheap for a quality fish($10=£5) I may be wrong, you'll have to grow them on yourself which which require a lot of work if you want them to get to 8 inch. What size are they?
Hope is all works out for you

stay away from somethingfishy, there are plenty of very recent horror stories over at simplydiscus about them. Also a pbass is way to messy, you won't get discus to 7+" with having to deal with lots of waste, and I can't imagine a pbass doing well in 86 degree water temps.......but maybe I'm wrong?? Find a good breeder, ask questions, and please don't buy just because it's cheap, you really get what you pay for.

50% water changes daily (at least) to get them as large as possible! Keep the tank bare bottom, and buy a minimum of 5 discus in nothing smaller than a 55 gallon. oh and feed them 4-5 times a day.
