The Green Phantoms are really cool. What kind of personality do they have? Do they hide alot? I've wanted one for a long time, but really don't know that much about them. I haven't been able to find much on the web.

That is a scarlet pleco and he is about 12", they need more than just algae to survive. This guy eats pellets, worms, krill and anything he can get to and he occasionally likes to wrestle with my 14" red tapajos pike.

got a new breed of pleco... can anyone tell me what kind of pleco it is? :grinyes: even the one who sold it to me doesn't know what it is :D it is the one in the middle the long one... the one on the back is a blue pleco the nearest one is... i also don't know... just kept on buying exotic fish :headbang2
hope someone can guess these species... :headbang2
It isone of the Sturisoma species, a nigrirostrum I think, they are all pretty much alike, the genus ranges from 5" to about 13", if that is the nigrirostrum it gets a little over 10". They are peaceful but need algae or green veggies, and also scour wood fibers like some plecos.
Here is a pic from fishbase for comparison.

01-22-2006, 1:10 PM

That 260 is beautiful. What is it about 3"??? I agree, very good photography. Any special tricks you used to get them to come out???
thanks you guys
yeah, she's about 3". I've only had her about 10 days and I'm still a bit concerned. Queens are not very aggressive for food so she's not getting much to eat yet, we'll see how she does.
The second I drop any kind of food into the tank they all come shooting out of the wood work.

Try adding large vegetables like cucumber, sweet potato, or zuchinni to the tank overnight. This will give all your plecs time to go after the food. Your queen will get a chance later at night after all the others have eaten to get some for itself. This is one of the best methods for feeding plecos in my opinion. Just leave it overnight, and pull it out in the morning. Depending on what you put it, I generally will peel any veggies I put in the tank, just the be certain that no waxes or pesticides will get into the tank.

I normally put a piece of zuc close to where a new pleco hides until they get use to the tank but my queen never stays in one place. I put large vegis in about once a week. I leave zucs or cucumbers in until they're gone, about a day and a half for half a zuc. If I tried to take it out sooner I would have to shake the plecs off, they don't leave until it's gone. I buy organic and leave the skin on, the BNs usually go for that first. sweet potato is not a big hit in my tank for some reason. I also drop in some green beans every few days, those vanish instantly. There's no shortage of food in my tank and her stomach is staying flat so she must be doing alright.
I knew L260s were not aggressive eaters but I couldn't pass her up. The lfs had her for $26. They also had Gold Nuggets and Royals for $18 each but I never have any luck with GNs and the Royals were a bit small.

Nice pic. Well the main thing is just making sure she doesn't develop a sunken stomach. Give her some time she'll lay stakes on her own little piece of land. when she does you can also try putting two pieces in. One near her territory and one big one over by everyone else.

Based on the colors, and placements of the dot it would appear to be a Green phantom L200 Hemiancistrus subviridis. The size doesn't help much yet. The L200 can reach sizes of 20cm or 8", while the L128 can reach a size of 15cm or 6".

As far as I have seen the L191 is only a brown eyed pleco. One of the common names for it is the dull eyed royal. The stripes differ from royal to royal within the same species. A friend in spokane breeds L190s and in the same batch of babies had 1 with wide stripes of off white, and another come out with thin off white stripes. Both parents were medium stripes.

I saw what was dubbed as an L191 on the net somewhere (can't remember the site) that looked like, well, an L191 with reddish eyes. Not something I thought existed either (maybe they were wrong). Perhaps some grey matter in the "L" system. Speaking of L191, mine was actually out yesterday with the help of a lone algae wafer so I took a pic. Flash from my camera gave him blue eyes like an alien. This guy just keeps getting more & more handsome with age.

Yeah that guy looks like an L191. Very good looking pleco still. I'll have to do a little research on that and get back to you as to what it was you saw... However, so often do I see mislabeled fish on the internet. I have seen Acanthicus Adonis labeled as L155 Acanthicus Hystrix way too often. If you want an example check out Petsolutions, they have Rhino plecs and Marble sail fin plecs L083 listed with the same picture... they also have L264 listed as Leopard plecs L114. Unless it is a reputable site don't trust it.

Still looking for a pos. ID on these Loricariidae. My best guess is Rineloricaria Parva or commonly known as whiptail cats/whiptail plecos. I have four of these now and hope to breed them. Not sure yet of the M to F ratio. Just got 3 of the 4 yesterday. They acclimated instantly and started to eat immediately after I released them into the tank. Colors vary a bit with each individual (light caramel to deep brown). The quad photo on the right shows different angles of the same fish. Photo on the left is one of my new ones. I have yet to get a pic of all of them together.

It is hard to say with these guys, there are so many differing species of them, and many look the same. The color will darken some as they age. Mine I've had for nearly 3.5 years and he went for 2.5" to 5" and has darkened considerably. Of couse they are subject to stress and their color does fade with stress.
If you can get shots of their mouths on the glass that might help identify them, or at least narrow it down some.

They are quite the pleco. I love the two I have now, and would love to try breeding them, but I need a male for that. The blues are also very good looking little guys. Especially the ones on Exoticfinds.

Is that the color your looking for? The darker L128 are harder to find, and that one appears to be one of the darker varieties.
yea, lighting and camera work and stuff makes a difference but i know what you mean. i like the darker ones, but maybe one with a more vibrant blue, but im not that fussy lol

Not having any problems with that bichir???
That sultan is a strange L264, at that size they would have large white spots on their fins, even at full size mine have white tips, however minor they may be now. Do you have the L# for yours???
I like the collection though!

I have an Ornate & Delhezi(10-12") in that tank for over a year no problems tho they do get shoved about by the Flash panaque if they are in the way.

Thanks mate:)
He was labelled "Leporacanthicus joselimai" and I have found no better match for him and I've checked Catfish planet.
Ps my nickname in the real world is Jos thats why he and the Hifins(Loo1 Glyptoperichthys joselimaianus) are in my tanks seemed like fate and couldnt resist.:grinno:

The coloration is a little strange for an L264, another of the Leporacanthicus genus is the L314 pictures 1 and 2, and the LDA56. The third is the common coloration for L264 up until the size of around 4.5".
