Besides there tuff aggressive behavior. They with-stand f**** up water conditions WELL!
I have been real busy and hadn't pay any attention to my tanks for the last two days. Well filter went out and tank water went BAD as HELL. Since I feed heavy my water gets polluted quickly, I do automatic water changes once a week. The stench from the bad water was INCREDIBLE! and was worried that I would find my prized dorado dead.... To my surprise my man was rolling in the tank LIKE A BOSS, with no oxygen, and super bad water for at least 2 days.... I was like Whoa! :WHOA: I learned a few lessons:
1) Dorados are probably one of the DOPEST fish a Monster Fish Keeper can have.
2) Even though they are characins they are built out of steel.
3) Always have backup filters, because 98.9% of any other fish would have died within the first 3 hours.

awesome, thats interesting, id have also assumed a high-oxygen-using fish like that would drop dead quickly from a power outage... how big was the dorado, and how big was the tank?

Damn Ruck, wish the one I sent you awhile back was as tough as this one! :(

Glad to hear your dorado made it thru that lil 2 day ordeal... I have to agree with you, dorados are definitely one of the dopest toughest fish that anyone can keep!

ive tried dourados twice, and gave up because they whack-spank-scar-crowd my aquarium too much...i had 2 Tinfoils, 3 bala sharks, 2 pangasius and 1 distichodus who would all crowd themselves at the right side of the tank afraid of the dourado while he would swim happily through the tank...the only ones not afraid were my aro and p.bass...all of my fish were big...some of the scaredicats where actually bigger than the dourado...aaaanyway...yes they are VERY resistent...but ive had an oscar live 3 months with only water...SWEAR ON MY LIFE! if u want to see my dourado and tankmates go to youtube and search for Adriusī Tank!
