Better take and post a pic. There are thousands of different C...I...C...H...L...I...D...S from every type of environment. We couldn't guess what you're referring to if we had guns to our heads. The more detailed the question, the better the response.

well you live in sf so it's pretty likely it's a flowerhorn. I'd bet a klenex and a cough drop on that one. Who's in?
Or here's some sage advice... Don't buy it until you know what it is and how to take care of it.

What size tank do you have?

I would recommend having a tank, and putting water in the tank... filtration and a heater should be used too

agree completely, if you dont know what it is then dont take it yet. just find out what it is, hit up the forum to learn real quick and then decide if you still want it.

try and transfer the gravel wet and keep the filter media wet too also if you can id even get 5 five gallon pails and bring the water because if you don't the tank will have to be cycled from scratch and i don't know very many chichlids that will tolerate cycling a tank good luck and keep us posted

you take a pic of this fish and post it on mfk
and we will identify it and tell you everything you need to know about it
how big is this fish?
There are nearly 2000 types of cichlid ranging from about 2" to over 32", some like soft water, some like hard water, some are mellow, and some are savage. We need a bit more info.
