I hope for her to go at least 25 years. Ive kept/bred numerous boas and pythons over the years. After my little girl was born I had to get rid of all but this female (she was my oldest and favorite!).

Its actually for sale right now it this forum. But it'll be a year old next month, its 2 feet long and eats a frozen then thawed mouse once every other week. I keep it in a 20g long with a screen top. I really like it, but I need the money right now, and I think I'm gonna get a hognose instead.

I have a 3 1/2 - 4 foot chocolate california king. He is 10 yrs old. Just gave away a really mean :angryfire albino (female) calif. king (7yrs old). She was the perfect compliment to his chocolate color. Always wanted to breed them but scared she would kill him. Didn't want to take a chance. Susie

The female A. Cal.King was about 3 1/2 feet. We had Corn snakes (they laid eggs yearly and the babies were so cute) also. The best herp-rept. we had was a Beardie. He was so personable and easy to train. :) Susie

I have a 30" wc glossy snake (we will end up letting him go again though). He eats two live hoppers every week. We had another one but since he didn't like mice we let him go within a week. These guys are really nice but only 50% on getting them to eat rodents. We found a beautiful baby 50/50 kingsnake in the house last year but unfortunately it was under a piece of cardboard on the way to bathroom= squished

Adrea, Have you tried giving him alizard ? Some (alot) of snakes find Anoles or lizards in the wild and are used to eating them. Where do you live? and what is a glossy snake?

Isis_Nebthet
05-20-2005, 11:08 AM
Since I caught them if they don't want mice I let them go again. I'm in the high desert in California (Mojave) about a 30 minute drive away from joshua tree national park. I've been lucky to have not found any rattlers in the house.

Here's a link to glossy snake info:
http://www.enature.com/fieldguide/showSpeciesRECNUM.asp?recnum=AR0192

Here's a pic of the one I have. I have better pics of the other one because we'd just fed this guy when I was taking pics. If any one is interested I'll gladly post them.

We found him and the one we let go again in the middle of a dirt road.

These are what I currently have...

4 malaysian blood pythons, 9 ball pythons ( one being a lemon pastel), 2 honduran milk snakes, 2 columbian boas (a pastel male and a monster tail hypo female... they produce amazing looking babies), 2 brazilian rainbow boas, a baby grey-banded kingsnake, a yellow anaconda, 2 burmese pythons (both "green" phase), and 2 reticulated pythons (a white albino and a lavender albino).

I should probably mention that snakes are just as important in my life as my fish are.

Most of mine are for sale (all of them except the bloods and the pastel ball).

I'm moving soon, and I've got to cut down on the reptiles so the baby can have his own room.

piranha45
05-20-2005, 10:28 PM
what would drive you to keep 9 ball pythons?

PredatoryFishMagazine
05-20-2005, 11:47 PM
I've had four breeding pairs for about two years now, I just purchased the pastel male a few months ago when I got my tax returns. The pastel will be big enough to breed in two years, and I'm going to hopefully get him to mate with two different females that year. The pastel is a co-dominant trait, meaning when I breed it to normal females about half of the offspring will still be pastels. I paid $2,500 for the pastel, mostly as an investment.

But, all in all, I just love ball pythons. They are extremely easy to care for, easy to breed, and they're friendly.

piranha45
05-21-2005, 12:00 AM
how active are they? are they dead logs/balls most of the time, or do they go cruising regularly? are they shy feeders?

PredatoryFishMagazine
05-21-2005, 12:12 AM
No, they aren't very active. They spend most of thier time in thier hide boxes. I very rarely see them roaming the cage. The only time I actually get to watch them is during breeding season when I introduce the males to the females, then it's nothing but constant action for about two weeks.

One of them is really shy about eating, but the rest are pretty good about it though.

05-27-2005, 9:33 PM
what differentiates a normal ball python from an axanthic king ball python?

PredatoryFishMagazine
05-28-2005, 10:22 PM
I've never heard of an axanthic "king" ball, but axanthics have the same pattern as normal balls, they're just darker and thier pattern is grey and silver instead of brown and gold.

piranha45
05-28-2005, 10:23 PM
ah, interesting. Do they cost like triple a normal ball python, or several grand?

I_Luv_Cichlids
05-28-2005, 10:27 PM
normal has the yellow pigment in their skin to make appear gold axanthic lack the yellow pigment making them appear grey or dark brownish grey mine looks like the darker more grey one and the other one is a normal ball python

Are you sure it's an axanthic and not just a dark normal? The last time I saw an axanthic being offered for sale it went for a little over $10,000.

I don't mean that to be rude, it's just that I find it highly unlikely that a hobbyist would have such a highly desired morph. If it was purchased as an investment to breed it, then I could understand.

I'd have to go with corn snakes. They stay relatively small (only about 5 feet), they are very docile, and very easy to take care of. My first snake was a corn snake actually.

A lot of people will probably recommend a ball python, but I wouldn't. Although ball pythons are extremely easy to take care of, they are also very picky eaters. They will randomly refuse food for weeks or months at a time for no apparrent reason. Ball pythons are good snakes once you have a little experience first.

Another reason I'm going to recommend a corn snake is they are very inexpensive and have a variety of color morphs that are easily obtained. You can get pretty much any color morph of the corn snake for under $100 (most being in the $15 - $50 range).

I've never been bitten by a corn snake, and I've never had a corn snake refuse a meal. In my opinion, a corn snake would be the best way to go if you are getting it for a kid.
