The smallest gars get to be 24" to 30" in length you could get a Hujeta gar that is in fact a Hujeta Pike Characin when you say Orange I am 99% sure there is no Orange Gar but have you confused it with a Orange pike like this one but it will not stay Orange going a lot darker and gets quite large and quite aggressive..
Have a look at this shows adult and Juvenile

What is the smallest gar?
The smallest true gar is the shortnose gar.
And there is a orange gar and it is no called orange gar it is called the gold gar are you refering to this:http://my.core.com/~garman/pix/gar_gold_kissimmee1.jpg
If YOU ARE, you can forget about geting one it is a very very very RARE GAR.
Try geting a shortnose or spotted but if you dont want the true gars go for needle nose gar or halfbreak.
Rember that true gar needs a big tank when adult size.
How big is your tank?
