Very nice! What are they feeding on? Mine was very shy and skittish until around 10" He is now getting very outgoing and begging for food when he see's me approaching his tank.

I fed them with a type of feeder red in color readily available locally. Guppies this week, and Neon Tetra once(v ex).
I am looking fwd to mine coming towards me during feeding time, but from the various posts, seems like even when fish reaches mid-size(9 to 12 inches), it will still b skittish and constantly knocks against the tank wall? Is that true?

I think there are a few factors that come into play. I'm sure the skittish level varies for each gatf. I believe tank size is a big factor. Ever since I put mine into a 240 gallon tank he has calmed down a lot. He doesn't bang the tank walls at all anymore. My number one reason for getting rid of a fish is because it is too skittish. I will not own a fish that will freak out if my friends want to walk over to the tanks and check them out. Up until a few months ago this is how the gatf would act. Even during feeding time I would have to throw the shrimp in and back away ten feet from the tank or he would freak. Give them some time they should calm down.

Hi,
You mean, you already gave up and sold away your GATF? I also find it frustrating when you finally got a fish, but did not get a good time watching them kill and displaying their aggressive nature.
But their outlook still attracts me v much. I try to see if any tankmates will help, but still I am seeing many mid-size Goliath with damaged jaws, during banging against the wall.

Bro,
Nobody is selling Armatus in Singapore, I approach quite a few people for help, but nobody is willing to do it.
I finally got hold of a friend doing arowana imports in Taiwan, he is willing help but at a price of S$600 per pc.
Sorry for so much grumbling last night, I had a little too much drink:
Anyway, some more pics:

Hi,
Still trying out different settings, and with and without aquarium lights, I think this is the limit I can come up with this SONY T70.

Nowhere better than yours la...I giving up.
Have to get those camera with faster apperture speed, somehow I still feel that Sony can never match a Nikon in terms of capturing special fast moving objects.

I like bro! How many you have again? What you feed, feeders? What's there grow rate been like?
There are actually only 4 pcs.
I am feeding small live red feeders(not sure about the official name) and growth rate is pretty slow considered the amount of feeders they have taken down, it's like 0.5 inch in one month.

Because they are fearsome looking and also SIZE.
I have been into carnivourous fishes that grows over 2ft for many years and still loves it! :grinno::grinno::grinno:

And, for African Tigers, they have that kinda mirror-like reflectiveness and super metallic shines.
But we can't blame people who finds us:screwy:, unless it really hits them.
My mum and brother was asking me if this fish is the same as those fishes in the market sold for consumptions, I think they look pretty similar.
If only we can have the space to accomodate sea-water barracudas.......I will do it.

Bro you forget one of the most important part... only those who kept them till they are much bigger is that if the feeder is bigger than their mouth abit they tend to chew them and let it go and chew it again till they can shallow it...
Or steal food from other atf. The way they swim also make them look cool... swim slowly in circle...it a monster that why i keep it

Yes, the way they eat, unlike Arowanas or any predatorial fishes that swallow whole piece. African tigers slice or sashimi their prey....:headbang2
And, they swims around like sharks and behaves extremely mysteriously, like you mentioned, snatching food from each other, which makes it interesting to want to observe them:naughty::naughty::naughty:.
I am waiting for the day they reach 2 feet!

Wat a waste.
I have loved these toothy fishes, even when I first saw a red-tail barracuda in a LFS(a few yrs ago) and now I have GATF!

I dun think he got keep before GATF
3feet is good enough for a small gatf... I keeping it for almost a year plus. from 3ft shift tank to 4ft... I will upgrade to a bigger tank somewhere end of the year... it is now 10"++ so if you like to keep just get it make sure you upgrade your tank when it grow bigger... my small one about 3" just die due to sickness from feeder and it is only in a 2ft tank...
channarox
06-14-2008, 12:01 PM
need to upgrade when bigger.
say,at least 8 to 10 feet long tank? :D
but they grow slow and small ones can be kept in a smallish tank for a while.

Cannot, these fishes small maybe(at juvenile), dart around v fast, meaning that they need a proportionally big space to occommodate them. That is, if you want them to grow to beyond 2 foot!
