My cousin currently keeps his small channel catfish in a 75gal rubbermade container turned tank... I told him this probably isn't a great idea consdiring that the container isn't made for fish but he says he hasn't had any problems...

Thoughts on this??

As long as he's providing clean water, good filtration and a healthy varied diet...what's the prob?

Is your cousin really you and this is a project you're thinking of doing?

well as long as no chemicals are used ,which should be stated i see no problem .a great way to give your fish the extra space it needs for a pretty good price .

My cousin has tried to convince me to do the same but I was just curious...
It does sound like a good and cheap idea...
I think I'll try it..

Its probably fine, although I bet its more of a challenge to get equipment on it (especially if the plastic is textured, suction cups wouldn't work) but its basically like a small pond. Unless it has been used for something else, I don't see a problem.

Sorry I'm a bit of a smart-a** but have good intentions, really.

I've done it a few times but only temporarily while moving or re-arranging tanks or something. Put some eggcrate over the top with something heavy to weigh it down or you'll have suicide jumpers.

I keep my turtle in a Rubbermaid... and many other people do aswell.
It's fine for fish and reptiles.

My friend stole his daughters kiddie pool to grow out his rainbow trout... then he fished for them.
