I'm gonna have to disagree here, and say you've got a male jag. Body shape, fin spotting/color, gill spotting are telling me male. Also notice the pelvin fin extensions (very small, but not often seen in females) in the 1st picture.

great fish n pics!! how do u tell jag sex??

My question too. I was always thinking this was maybe a male, because females seem to have less patterning:confused: As MDH stated, lately I have heard that spotting on the gill plates means male. Does anyone have a female with this type of spotting? For you who say female, what specific characteristics of this Jag make you think female?

Thanks.

75/25--- on male for myself, i dislike sexing some jaguars do to the fact that they can get similar traits for both sexes, most jaguars are very distinguishable. your fish has a prodominate gill spot- both male and female trait depending on origin of fish, but more commonly seen in females for captive bred.

the spoting, striping and shadeing on the body through me off a bit, do to the fact i see both female and male triats- the light shade of color in the mid body- female trait- females are usally very light shaded.

the body i could go ethier way, not more rounded like typical females. but also not more elongated as with males.

and for the head shape i say male, the total dark shade patch on the snout, shouts male, plus it's more elongated, as with typical females the mouths are rounded.
