Mad Puffer Fish Attacks Diver

Diving the Hole in the Wall off Jupiter is always an unusual dive. The depth and proximity to the Gulfstream attracts many large pelagic visitors. This day turned stranger when a porcupine puffer fish launched out of a hole and bit my little finger off. Yes, I said puffer fish. Those cute, cuddly, doe –eyed denizens of the deep apparently have quite a temper and a vicious set of teeth.

 and this man knows about fish  So what’s the really big fish circling over our head with loads of teeth could be the next question??

Well puffer owners clean that tank with that immage in your head

i will stick to my nice safe snakheads

There is a huge puffer that lives in a sunken boat just off the beach of the Colonial Hilton in Nassau Bahamas. He is in there every time I go there. This makes me think twice about diving down to greet him face to face like I usually do-

I caught a porcupine puffer on a spinner while fishing in Antiqua. It felt like reeling in a wet t-shirt. I went to release it and noticed the hooks were crushed flat, the spinner was crushed flat, the freaking eye you tie the line to was crushed flat. They have some strong jaws.

I knew they could inflict a nasty bite, but that is insane. I will be more carefull next time I am diving around puffers. Maybe it was a rogue puffer like jaws or something.

did this really happen to you?? when ? because I dive a lot and if it is you that is bit then you are a local legend... every dive boat that I go on talks about you! I have seen some HUGE puffers out there! I dont live far from jupiter. I saw one the size of a garbage can once!
