There are rumors of someone on the westside that has several 18"-20" plus dats (all grow outs)... ;) He keeps fish only for himself and doesn't care to show them off or brag about them...

My largest one is 17 inches and actually there are 2 at that size with a 3rd one at 16.5 inches. I have never seen any bigger in person but would love to. If anyone out there has anything bigger than 17 inches for sale, just let me know.

IVE KILLED DATS BEFORE (i had 24 when i went on vacation last year to the atlantis resort)
needless to say they were overfed and i lost 19 of um , they were 6-9inches and the ones left over was a single 4 incher and 4 5-6inchers
upon disection and gutting of the fish i found every one to b male? has anyone else noticed this? i think the reason we dont see captive breeding is because females are easier to come by (MUCH LIKE LARGEMOUTH BASS IN NORTH AMERICA)

well..no matter what..i guess the best is still rear a fish from young till monster size..then will really have the sense of accomplishment....
i mean..you can spend all the money u wan to get a big one like in the pics..but I guess you only get to rear it till it goes into old age...not appreciating the growing phase..

What kind did you get? It depends on tank size, the bigger the faster they grow. Given a large tank they could get to about 6-8 inches in another year. In two years 10 to 12 inches. Given a large tank. After that, growth will slow and depending upon which type how big.
