I think the zoo/aquarium knows what they are doing. Besides, from what Ive see with rays, Id be worried about the turtles! The rays dwarf them!!
JW, can you link the thread to the gun board? I love seeing what "non-fish" people have to say!

I think that Leos have 2 extra rows of spines and have much creamier spots, also heneli has lots of smaller spots around the edge of the disc and on its underside.

The underside thing cant be used to tell if its a henlei or not.. Lots of leos have the same type of spotting under their discs too (like my male).
But if you look at the spots, you will be able to the a dark ring around the wite edge.. Only henleies have that.. :)

Yes, this is Dallas World Aquarium. And they've had those turtles in with those rays for at least the last five years.

Uh huh. DWA for sure (I helped build that pool in the pic). Leos are back in a pool attached to the croc pool. Been breeding them since I was there back in 01-03ish.
Hens (pictured) are in a pool we did to originally introduce the 1 year old Orinoco croc offspring. I haven't talked with them in awhile, but I don't think Hens are being bred a this point.
All ray pools there have turtles and other fish in with them.
Erica - shoot me an email sometime, I have a question for ya. :) And thanks for taking care of my old intern a couple weeks ago. :headbang2

Dug out some pics to compare the hen to the leo pools.
Hens are in a smaller area with small podocnemis spp (turtles). Leos have a little more room - and are in with silver aros, red devils and uaru cichlids, mata mata and podocnemis unifilus (yellow spotted Amazon turtles).

Babies DWA has now are from Aq of the America's breeding program in an effort to diversify gene pool.
