Well... I finally received my lungfish this morning! I met Gordon at the Brisbane airport at 5:30 and left with a new addition to my wet family, but not before having a quick chat with Gordon and I must say he is a very nice bloke.

Here is my box (the bottom one)

I Don't mind at all mate. It was $500.00 + GST and + freight. Seriously worth it. I'm just glad I don't have to worry about the min order of 5 like they do for international orders.

Cheers Brother! Got some better pics of him last night, will post them up.

Very nice Aussie lung, I hope to get mine soon.

Thank you mate. Well I saw the very large shipment of Aussie lungs being sent over to Asia... is yours in there?

Nice pick up. How big is that guy? I can't wait to see the growth pics.

I like the setup, by the way. I'm sure he loves his new home.

Cheers mate. He is only about 4 inches at the moment, but very inquisitive. As soon as He was in he started exploring and swimming through the plants, I think that means he loves his home.

I collected the two large pieces of driftwood from bushland out west Brisbane. One piece is a hollowed out tree trunk, quite the find I must say!

WOW that's a nice pick up...would love one of those some day....

Cheers! I had wanted one for many years. I highly recommend them to anyone thinking of getting one.

awesome.... im looking forward to getting my hands on one...

Awesome! maybe they can be pen pals

So do they cost more in Australia like a lot of fish, or less since they are native?

I believe they cost the same, $500.00AUD, just our shipping costs would be less then sending overseas... I live a three hour drive south of where they are bred, so I was able to meet Gordon the breeder at the airport when he was shipping them off and save on freight.

He has settled in really well thanks Bruce. He is eating bloodworm, earthworm and beefheart at the moment. He has a few hiding holes in the wood where he seems to like to carry the food over to and keep it there for a few hours before eating it.

UMMM....THEO!!!! bog asked u a question....!!!!! UPDATES??? lol

They grow like weeds.

They are probably the fastest growing fish I have ever kept.

They will slow down considerably once they hit 30cm though.

Thats good to hear! I am looking forward to him being about 6 or 8inches, he just seems so fragile being that small.

Any tips at all I should keep in mind? What do you feed yours? I would like to have him on a varied diet, so i am experimenting with foods at the moment and see what he likes. Loves beefheart and worms so far.

Mine would eat absolutely anything...

They loved protein pellets though. They would go nuts as soon as it hit the water.

They are very hardy fish.

whats is the age span on a aussie lung???

I am certain they get to at least 50 years as proven by the specimen at Shedd Aquarium. But I have also read that they can live up to 100 years.

it will probably outlive you.

I hope so. He will be like a child that never leaves home :D

$30.00 is a very nice price to pay for an OZ lung. I wish i had as much luck.
He is a 450gal by himself, so hopefully he can make do for the next little while.

Can I ask what those lighter marks are on his head?

They are more like little dimples. I am not too sure what causes it, but I have seen it on other juvenile Australian lungfish and it goes away with age.

I think so too :D

Great pic btw, 450 sounds like a great home for him, do you have any or plan to add any tankmates for yours?

I'm struggling with what, if any, I want to add. I did pick up some Mogurnda mogurnda gudgeons and thinking of adding some Aussie Rainbows for color/movement but long term I'm guessing those will all become "snacks"

~THEO~
06-29-2008, 8:10 PM
I have no plans on any tank mates now or in the future. I would rather just keep it a single specimen tank. Rainbows would be nice, but I have noticed that my lung takes a while to get to his food and if there were a school of rainbows sharing his tank then it may result in his food getting stolen.

Just found another picture that turned out alright... he had enough of the camera by this time by the looks of things.

awsome lung there you should keep some sort of chart of his growth to see how fast it is :)

~THEO~

I really wish I did keep a chart on his growth. I just came back from a 2 week, 8000km road trip and he has grown alot in that time. I coul hardly believe it was him at first.
