i have 5 peices of rock and i just cannot get them to "go" right! i spent all last week everyday rearanging it...but it just doesn't look how i want it to...

its best that i get it done now b4 i get more fish/coral

so whats the secret? should i fetch it forward or lean it against the back?

how i have it now it the worst i've put it...it doesn't help that they are different colours...because 1 said has all the purple and the other side is dull but they wont lock or look natural.

i was thinking of putting the big peice on the bottom because its heavy and good for building up on.

anyway tell me what you think.

I think it looks great as it is....If you want to shape it better, try using milli-put / reef epoxy....

yeah its resting against the back wall so there no really many gaps for fish to swim around is it better to interlock them away from the wall?

that might be a good idea just think of it like a jigsaw turn it until you find it locks in well

Yeah, i would agree...play around with each bit of rock, and they usually will, somwhow, fit together pretty well i've always found..

I like it how it is. When the coraline takes off, it will look amazing!

hmmm well theres always room for improvement lol ....i'm gonna have another play around with them and get them to lock away from the wall rathe than just balanceing against the back wall or laying on top...i'll post pics soon!

might take forever!

lol. I like to put the best shaped rock on the bottom, and build from that. Having a decent base will give you a solid structue, and as i found is usually easier to work with when it comes to stacking. Just my .02

I practilcally threw my live rock all ver the place trying to get it to look right. Is that a nano cube? If so, what size, and how is it working for you?

I generally like a lot of cliffs and crevices for the fishes to go in and out of. Something like this.. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1288059-Bonsai

i like the way it it. maybe get some more live or base rock and extend it alittle further towards the front, but the front-on view looks great!

i redesigned it :D i like it better now ....more places to put coral.

also today...well just now i spotted a baby snail on the glass about 1mm ...it looks like a snail! is this possible...the last thing i got was rock about 6 weeks ago.

Looks pretty good to me but i know in the past i have seen rock drilled and then held together by plastic zip ties. might think about that

if its a reef tank youre building id say get lots more live rock and build three rough levels for corals with differing light needs

princess

yeah...i was thinking more live rock...but the coral i'm gonna get comes attached to live rock...costs more but that way i get to increse the LB of rockage.

i have 15lb in there now....the big bit to the left is 5lb!! its super heavy and bloody clumbsy so that has to go on the bottom yet...its an awkward shape.

my A level in art means nothing! lol they problem is i think about it to much without just placing it. I might get some coral this weekend.....how exciting

Personally I like it when its lopsided and more natural looking not just all at the back. When I arranged my rock I used small pieces so I had more variation. It created so many hidy holes its crazy. Heres a picture of it
haha lol the stuff around it is a mess right now I just finished cleaning my 150 gallon tank area and haven't moved things back into storage yet

looks cool but my problem is i got 5 big peices and they all have "show sides" so i have to face them a certain way. anyway i think i'll keep it as it is... :D

I think thats the best layout you have had so far. Live rock must be fun to watch it grow and really become part of the tank...very cool

i like it as well. am also loving the mushroom corals you got.

BIGgourami
05-13-2008, 1:05 PM
i still think you'l need more rock, to use shelves in 3 dimesnsions not just 2..

05-13-2008, 5:14 PM
ugh i bought 2 more peices of rock! bace rock...its under there now...thats 18lb i have now! ugh this tank just won't fill up! i aint getting more because all the rock is gonna get covered in coral...which will have rock with it.

BIGgourami
05-13-2008, 10:27 PM
good idea.. alot of people go aout and buy 1-2 pounds of rock for their soon to be reef tanks not thinking of what comes in on the coral

sweeTang21
05-14-2008, 9:10 PM
nice FTS. I think its filling up nicely. Will look very nice when some more corals find ther ways into your tank.

Any plans for Stock??? hows the goby???
