I just picked up a butti and that thing beat the hell out of everything I had in the tank with it, including a GT and a convict. I had to put him in his own tank.

Eventually the Butti will kill the GT.

if the oscar is biger then the gt its ok,
i think the jaguar will be to aggresive for the gt.
you can add salvini, texas or jack's you can even try some kind of a Vieja.

I agree for the most part. I wouldn't go with Viejas because they can grow rather large and most can get very aggressive. it would depend on the personality of the individual fish. the salvini, texas or jack would probably be fine though. as for an oscar, these also will get rather large and messy. with proper filtration and water changes and depending on the personality of the gt it may work out.

as for the butti, this fish will eventually need the 75 minimum all to itself. these guys are hyper aggressive. I once saw one at around 12" relentlessly chasing a slightly larger oscar in a 300 gallon tank.

My story is a little different the oscar was like 5.5" and butti was < 3". The psycho ate oscar's eyes. He must have liked the taste since a max. size male albino convict got blind too after then.

Im sorry but adding the oscar was a big mistake though i would warn you if i saw that post earlier. But still the fish are not safe; u should take butti out as soon as you can. The butti never seriously harms when u are watching. So dont let it deceive you.

well all the fish i have is raised by me from 2" size and i didnt just added the oscar
they grow up together and the oscar always defended it self.
but the butti sure knows how to fight and in the end she won.
but since the oscar died the midas dosnt let the butti attack other fish,
when he see the butti trying to attack someone he makes him back off.

and by the way even if you had seen the post earlier ,so what.
im raising this kind of cichlids allot of years and i have allot of expirience with them.
and believe even when you are watching the butti does allot of damege.

Well i didnt say i know better than you. I just wanted to urge you that buttis are unpredictable fish and an oscar would always be the primary target for buttis. And if it had tried before, then it is obivious that it would try to kill oscar again. Anyway i know i repeat myself but u better get it out at least as a precaution. Sorry for your loss..

I know you are probably looking for another "showpeice" but have you considered some Silver Dollars? Thats what I have with my Butti and it works out great. I also have a spotted Gar and a 27" Fire eel. The butti dosent bother any of them suprisingly so give that a thought. I am convinced that the aggression comes from any type of territory compitition. Just a thought.

Yeah, I threw in a couple of rosies and guppys with my butti hoping it would eat them, but two months later they are still in there. It won't touch smaller fish, but anything near it's size it will destroy.

There should never be a one on one situation with any aggressive fish as there will always end up with one even with a bonded pair you have some dither fish. That said the buttikofri will probaly kill the 2 greenterrors if you put all 3 in the tank now. but now would be best time to try if you really want. Afterall I kept severums & robertstoni with buttis. however the difference was there were also some dempseys & labiatums. The butti will get to big though for the aquedins(GTs).
