:iagree:
Koi will be eaten as soon as the aparima can manage it.

I raise two gigas with some kois
they just dont fit in gigas mouth.

That would be an expensive meal. I wouldn't suggest it for too long.

what about the koi at 83 degrees....might be to warm for the koi

if would guess well fed pimas might leave them alone

Yeah, koi are not a tropical fish by any means. And arapaima do best in fairly warm water. I can't see them mixing well.

Just before I said that, today I saw that my two kois were eaten by my biggest gigas, the only that can manage to eat them.
As long as that were enought food, I didn't realize they would eat the kois.
well, at least he ate very well.

lesson to remember, always put biggest kois with gigas

HI .. thank for all the advise .. how big a koi is considered as big ? ... how many inches ? What is the safe size ... that a fish .. can swim with an arapaima ? .. thanks :)

that's difficult to say, the gigas has a large mouth.
that means the fish should be at least twice as bigger than his mouth open. ehehehehehhe
I'll let johnptc answer that.

well first of all why have koi with an arapaima when you can have other really cool tropical fish with it if you have enough cash to get an arapaima then get some other big tropical fish

Eventually, the arapaima WILL eat the koi. Koi just don't grow as large as fast.

lol well my lfs has a over 2 ft Koi would a gigas try to make a meal of somethin like that?

Very quickly. A 24" fish would be a snack to an adult gigas.

yep! they can be on a community. ive seen it and i know the owner. in fact, its a moderator on some other forums that im active. though, theres a catch. you have to feed the paima adequately. coz for what ive heard, it eats a koi every other day when starved. the paima was about 5ft and the kois at 1.5ft btw.

No way.. The moment arapaima gets bigger than the koi, it will be a fantastic eating session.. Arapaima can eat anything that fits with their mouth, i saw a video of arapaima (39") eats an arowana around 14-18".. There's no way a koi can defend itself to a monster like arapaima..

confucious? completely agree! big fish + little fish = big fat fish.
and the temp diff...not really a great way to raise fish, bit unfair.
