Hi all

Sorry I'm new to this forum and so I apologise in advance if I'm not doing this right.

Bit of background...
I have a 240L Juwel Rio-housed South American Cichlid tank, featuring Angels, Blue Rams, Rummynose Tetra, Penguin Tetra, Sterbai Corrydora, and a Bristlenose Pleco. All readings indicate the conditions are fine... pH 7, Nitrite 0, Ammonia 0, Nitrate 40-80ppm, Temp 26C. The tank is medium planted with various swords, and houses bogwood and mopani bogwood. It's been set up for just over a year.

The Problem...
I'm afraid I don't have a camera so bear with me on this...
A little while ago I introduced a new Blue Ram to the tank, who very soon developed a pure white pimple (like a whitehead ew....) which after a month or so exploded and left a crater - despite anti-bacterial meds he died soon after.

Everything's been fine for a couple of months since, but now it looks like something similar's affected one of my large angelfish.

For around 2 weeks the angel has had a small amount of white pimples (approx 3-6 at a time, 0.5-1.5mm across) which seem to come and go around his head area above and below his eyes.

What is it?
I treated for ich, but to no avail. So far I've used Interpet anti-ich (contains melachite green), added salt and raised the temperature to around 27/28C.

I asked a lady in the shop today and she said it could be fungal resulting from wounds from the other angel. Yes of course there's the occasional nipping, but this doesn't look fungal at all - it's like a teenage pimple more than anything.

I've checked around this and many other forums and I can't find out what it is - is there anybody out there who might have the answer?!

Many thanks for any help :)

don't want to ask the obvious but did you quarantine the ram before adding him? seems as if the parasite was introduced with him, and now its spreading to all your fish.

No, I'm afraid I didn't - which was very bad of me.

the quarantine issue ( which always is a "lesson learned " ) does not help our friend now....try to post a picture of the pimple, please....

Thanks Miguel,

I've read your thread and it it seems to be a mystery doesn't it...was it lice, anchor worms, parasites or what in the end?

The last post was a while ago - what happened after that. Did the pimples develop, did the fish die, or did you manage to treat it successfully?

Many thanks!

Looks like lymphocystis to me

Zerelli, I can see where you're coming from but it doesn't look anything like a tumerous growth - it's very much like a pimple that gets to a certain size, stops growing then disappears or decreases in size.

seperate him and treat until you find what works. A 10g will be fine and alot cheaper to dose. Then if it continues to break out you know how to fix it. I would dose a anti fungal from the pics you posted.

It could very well be viral though

Thank you for your comment, but in all honesty I really don't think it's fungal. It doesn't look fluffy in any way.
