I might be able to make it!Too bad its Central Cali and not Norcal lol.
I think the closest thin we'll ever have to a true Norcal meet was ACA 07.

LoL true. And I decided on this date mainly because alot of the So Cal MFK Members will be here duroing the weekend. So It has to be on the weekend of. Doesn't neccesarily have to be on opening day. But I might be able to get in before it opens, If so I'll post plenty of pictures.

Okay well I'm trying to still plan a day, cuz a few of the So Cal guys will be rolling up here was well so I want to coordinate with them as well. Let me know who wants to go and whose available which day. We'll set up a BBq at my house after the event. Raffle off a few things and what not. Should be fun. I'll put up a large Perch for the raffle. who knows what kind.

Steinhart Aquarium is one of the older public aquariums in this country., they shut down 2 years ago and completely rebuilt the facility! they'll be open this fall.

Fish list they have, may or may not be on display.,

huge Potomotrygon leopoldis
alligator gars in excess of 6 feet
Huso huso, the Russian giant sturgeons, largest in the world
Australian lung fish that was obtained in 1930's which makes it over 70 years old!
Huge fly river turtles
4 feet long pangasius sanitwongsi
Asian arowanas-tons of them
Arapaima xxl
Huge cichla temensis probably 30"
piranhas
Reef tanks, a lot of salt water
reptiles and amphibians

This is the only complete aquarium in California, and it'll be awesome to see it back up and running again. Everyone should go! Its a legendary aquarium., it also has an academy of science, which has catalogues and preserved fish of many kinds!

Best day to go is

Opening Day
The Academy will be free to the public on Saturday, September 27, 2008.

Wednesdays
Free general admission to the Academy on the third Wednesday of every month

Then after that go to Sixth Ave, and buy a fish with the money you saved from the free admission

I`m going with my whole family in the morning around 6am. Rain or shine. Would not miss it. The old place is what got me started in the fish hobby.

I heard that opening day was a bad day to go..Too many people, no parking spaces, a line 2 miles long, not getting in until 5 hours later when getting in line, etc..

Pay the $25.00 for admission on a regular day and not a free day like the opening day, and it is worth it..

benzjamin13

Yes I did. It was will worth getting up at 4am to get there early. We were the first 500 people to get in. From what I heard, traffic was crazy all over SF. Will try to post some pics. up later.

Hey guys, looks like this one was overlooked earlier! We are currently planning a winter Nor-Cal meet to the Academy of sceinces, check out the sticky if you are interested in going again, or missed this one. It would be great to meet a lot of you, and there will be free Winter meet MFK shirts and and Ocean's Advocate "Sea Pack" for all MFK members who attend. Join us!
